Two lots of Centrals fans, apprantley one whistled at anothers girlfriend, ended up with bottles being thrown and all hell braking loose.
That's 2nd hand from people I know and trust.
Bloody Cornsey's got wind of it already and is making noise as usual, luckily he's already aware that it had nothing to do with North fans.
thanks guys for your prompt response....

Well if you read Campbell's "diluted" version on the CDFC forum you would think nothing happened. Fortunately we were close enough to see the start of the incident and the ensuing melee which got ugly when the dickheads started hurling bottles and rocks (Campbell omitted that from his version) over the mound down to the main public walkway to the car park and Grand Central. Both parties (the two main blokes and all their hanger on's were Centrals supporters because at one stage they were either side of where we were standing and barracking for the dogs before one group of blokes had a crack at another blokes girlfriend as they left during the last quarter.
Great start to night footy at Elizabeth

.
Thanks for your replies...

After slaving my proverbial off in a superhot BBQ for most of the night (for sweet bugger all might I add) I was mightily pissed off that a small group of ferals decided to try to dilute their gene pool there and then.
I was equally mightily pissed off that precautions amounted to ONE security guard positioned near the bar (and the money) on the grandstand side. That was it.
For the $$$ the BBQ and canteen raked in that night with a crowd of 2000 it would have been a great investment for the club to trial security measures before Round 1.
For the sake of a few lousy bucks the club now has to endure adverse publicity.
I have since been told that no-one under the influence will be admitted into the oval, eskies etc will be banned, security and police will be present. It's a bit late now in the publicity stakes.

Will the club replace the dodgy light bulbs in the tower?

Eskies banned? I took mine the Eagles v Central trial the other week, nothing and I took it again to the u17s/19s trial on the Sunday, nothing happened. I know there's a sign that says no bottles and so forth, but I usually take an esky to footy matches, except at AAMI and Adelaide Oval of course.

I would have thought that for a trial game 1 security guard was ample. No doubt there will be more (+police presence) when the real stuff starts.

Yes, the incident was regrettable, very much so. Hoping that idiots like that would stay away rather than try to ruin it for everyone else.
As for security though, I can understand Kris Grant in not thinking that we needed it for a trial match. After all, I would be surprised if many other clubs booked security for their trial games. There will be plenty there this week though!

It was a "regretable" incident for Centrals given the 'timing' of the match but I would have thought that the 1st time a game was played at night at Elizabeth and given the regular 'publicity' involving a minority of Centrals fans that there might have been more than one security guard on. It appeared he was there to watch the bar (and most likely the money aspect). He would have struggled to contain a small bloke if any trouble started at the bar because he was on his own and he wasn't exactly "gigantor" or a spring chicken for that matter. One Security Guard is not occupationally safe unless you are the size of Shaq. It is a bit like putting unarmed guards solo outside a bank - is that actually going to stop an armed robbery - No.

Most problems with small crowds happen with people who have had a few too many and a polite request to pull their head in usually sorts the matter out.
Note that the incident was a personal one between doggies supporters and no way an attempt to intimidate visiting teams supporters.

Fair point doggies but some of the guys involved who were drinking out of bottles alongside the announcers booth and near to where we were standing (The bottles we later saw being hurled over the hill at the other persons involved in the fight). Some of that group were just "feral" and a few of us recognised 2 of them as being in the group that have tried to cause trouble at the "Taj" bar at Prospect on their last 2 visits and are part of your "end to end" group - which they loudly announced repeatedly all night until the fight brooke out. Of that group Sat. night most looked about 18 or 19 no older but seriously I doubt if their real intention is to watch football.
What is going to happen when a visiting team has a reasonably large group of vocal supporters present or their Cheer Squad is vocal and the game is close - are these dickheads going to be looking for trouble? That is the fear for opposing supporters because it has happened in the past regularly - and I can go back to the 70's and remember clearly being threatened and hassled in the North Cheer Squad. Things haven't got any better it seems over the years.
The other issue Sat night was the random throwing (by the those idiots who were hiding in the main mob watching the fight) of rocks and bottles into a darkened area over the hill and onto a walkway near the car park enterance and Grand Central - those objects could have hit anyone passing by. They were even too gutless to just have normal punch up! Then near the end of th game some of them ran back up to near us and were bragging about throwing the bottles and rocks - lot's of centrals supporters saw it and heard their reaction - and were disgusted.

Just the sort of response Centrals supporters shouldn't give. Maybe you were one of the gutless mob throwing rocks and bottles hey?

** No drebin as a matter of fact I am a 36 yo married woman not normally prone to throwing rocks or bottles, in fact the only stuff I drink in a bottle is Coca Cola! **
apologies for my comments and any offence caused, but really there are gutless wonders everywhere, just happens that unfortunately for us a few of 'em rocked up saturday night at Hamra and were apprently doggies fans'..... sorry again but honestly though these comments ie "dont want to take my family etc etc" are in my opinion a little sooky.. especially mostly from grown men.... but each to their own...

definitely agree in an ideal world this sort of thing should not happen but then again we just dont live in that ideal world do we????

I don't see the problem in 'sus' not wanting to attend nighty footy at Elizabeth, especially if he has a family to look after/think about. For you to bag him for making that decision is pretty poor. I know it's only a minority who cause the trouble but it's not very good publicity, there was talk (some of it may have been jokes) about safety concerns re: night footy up north, and the first chance you get to prove to everybody its a safe option, stupid stuff like this happens.
Fighting between people who support the same team is ridiculous! If Centrals supporters arent safe around other Centrals supporters how will other supporters feel?
