SANFL is the nation's strongest local league
SOUTH Australia is running the strongest state-based football competition in the country – enjoying a 17 per cent increase in television viewers and a 10 per cent rise in revenue last year, SANFL president Rod Payze says. Despite almost two million people watching SANFL games on TV, Mr Payze said the challenge was "to translate this interest into greater attendance" with innovations.
The SANFL and Australian Football League made solid profits last year and intend to use the funds to grow the game. AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou, buoyed by the lucrative TV deal with Channels 7 and 10, said the league must develop a 10 to 20-year strategy. Mr Payze said "there is no room for complacency".
SANFL chief executive Leigh Whicker said the league would focus more on entertainment, including milestone events and the introduction of theme rounds this year.
