Wow - I'm first? I live 40 minutes from the game...

Firstly, great day in the past players tent as well as popping over in the last qtr to meet Rushby, JB and a few others who escape my battered memory.

Good to see the dogs finally show some fight in the final qtr but it was WAY TOO LATE. Bays too good today, although the umpires were deplorable - no impact on the result but Rowston is the twerp I called him in a thread a couple of weeks ago.

Westhoff needs to toughen up a lot before he would make his way back to the AFL, way too timid today, Symes could have done with a run in the B's as well. Unfortunately C.Gowans, Callinan, Aufderhide & Steinburner were the 4 fellas selling raffle tickets for the players trip today (by the way, I didn't hear the raffle drawn fellas, just as I predicted - the carton of beer 1st prize was drunk before the tickets were sold) - they would be handy additions to the league side.

Hats off to the bays, certainly the better side today and the best side I have seen this season. Looking forward to the next game between the 2 sides in a few weeks at the same venue.

another tick off the list for our boys today, like at the bay earlier the scoreline flattered central, we are genuine contenders, make no mistake and for the record we are unbeaten at opposition grounds at our recent encounters and our record since round 8 last year is 19wins 2 draws and 4 losses. look out blues next week!

you know, i wonder of making a grand final, a taboo thought as a bay supporter after so many years in the doldrums - dont worry i aint getting ahead of myself but i just cant believe that we have beaten you guys out there and now have won 9 straight. as i said to a mate at coopers 4 weeks ago after smashing the legs this must be a dream and i will wake up and its 2001

Hey Footy Fans,

Well done to Glenelg today, hanging on for a 21 point win, breaking a 16 year hodoo, winning at Elizabeth for the first time since 1992 !!??

The Bays set the win up IMO, with a great 7 goal to 1 opening term after the Dogs kicked the first goal of the game inside a minute, only to be able to kick 2 points for the remainder of the quarter. Heath Lawry started off in defence on Grima and looked uncomfortable with Todd taking a couple of strong marks and kicked a couple while McConnell was too good for Ryan Williams in the early stages of the game. Centrals looked flat in opening stanza and were being thrashed in the midfielf while at times the side seemed disinterested in making a contest and running for their team mates. The Tigers led by a controlling 39 points at the first change.

The 2nd term was a little scrappy with both sides only kicking 2 goals apiece while the very poor umpiring, Rowston in particular, caused much frustration for fans and players alike. Glenelg again dominated in the midfield and around he grounds while Centrals were not their usual coherent selves, turning it over too often which at times was due to the great Bays pressure. After a great 1st term by the visitords, a fairly dour struggle in the 2nd term saw Mark Mickan's men go into the long break with a 35 point lead.

The 3rd quarter was once again dominated by the visitors and Centrals were lucky to not be trailing by more than they did at 3/4 time after an innaccurate Glenelg kicked 4 goals 7 to Centrals 2 goals 1. Mark Ruwoldt missing after running into an open goal sqaure was the worst miss and there was also 3 posters in this quarter by the Tigers as well. At one stage the Dogs trailed by as much as 52 points and really struggled to get in the contest throughout the first 3 quarters, going into lemons trailing by 47 points.

Kicking with the breeze in the last quarter, Centrals refused to lay down and kicked 5 unanswered goals in the first 15 minutes to at one stage reduce the margin to as little as 15 points. Poor umpiring was frustrating the fans and players alike with all 3 men in white, Chris Carey, Colin Rowston and Tony Dey having absolute shockers IMO. The Doggies comeback was halted by one of these shocking decisions with 2 or 3 consecutive 25's paid seeing the Bays kick their first goal of the term late before Centrals answered straight back but had to kick another 3 goals with no less than 5 minutes of play remaining. A scuffle with Hinge and Thomas late saw the Bulldogs skipper get reported for striking I believe and the Bays then went forward where Matty Bode kicked the winning goal handing the visitors the 2 points with a 21 point win.

FINAL SCORES:
Glenelg: 7.5 9.5 13.12 15.13 = 103
Centrals: 1.2 3.6 6.7 12.10 = 82

GOAL KICKERS:
Glenelg: McConell 4, Grima 3, Bode 2, Backwell, Ruwoldt, Hinge, Sellar, Liebelt
Centrals: Havelberg 4, J.Westhoff, O'Sullivan 3, McCabe, J.Gowans

MY BETTER PLAYERS:
Glenelg: Fisher, Bode, Allen, Hinge, McConnell, Backwell, Grima, Holmes, Kane
Centrals: J.Gowans, Thomas, Havelberg, Dutschke, O'Sullivan, Giles

My guess at the crowd today would have to say 2,500 - 3,000 maybe which considering the hype before this game, was very dissapointing but I guess the threat of poor weather and the TV broadcat probably kept a few fans at home. From wha I could see, there were no injuries from either side but there was a report as mentioned above with Paul Thomas, already suspended once this year, getting reported for striking the Bays John Hinge.

The Bays now look forward to a blockbuster top of the table clash at home with the Double Blues, who thrashed the Eagles today, while the Dogs head down to Woodville to play the Eagles, who like mentioned above, copped a hiding from Sturt today.

I managed to get through my debut as an "Around The Grounds" reporter unscathed, despite a nervous start, but I feel as though I got better as I went along and was told afterwards that I had a great voice for radio. Does that mean I have a bad head for telly then ? Who knows ??!!

Great effort from the Bays today, well deserved winners and clearly the better side on the day. Look forward to the next time these 2 sides meet again, at Hamra Homes Oval under lights in about 6 weeks, I think about Round 18.

Big Phil signing out for LifeFM, 107.9... SANFL Football, come and get it !!?? Sorry, couldn't help myself !!

Big Phil...

Yeah, I would have to agree with you there Tassie...

As good as you guys were today, I thought we were absolutley terrible, except the first 15 minutes in the 4th term where we mounted a bit of a fight back. You guys have got a couple of key defenders and leaders to come back in the side, in Mules and Sherwood, which will only make you stronger and we have C.Gowans, Callinan, Slattery and maybe Griffin from the Crows to come into our line up. I think that although, you are only as good as your opposition lets you to be, I think when these 2 sides meet again at Elizabeth underlights in round 18 we will see a much better battle than what we did today.

I reckon your game next week against Sturt has to be game of the year so far, our game today would have been up there, but the top of the table clash down at the Bay will be an absolure ripper. So much so, I reckon I'll be taping it to check out the replay. Again, well done to your mob today, well deserved win and at this stage, I reckon it is still a 3 team race for the premiership. Sturt and Glenelg next week could well and truly be a grand final preview but with the Dogs still having so much improvement to come (surely, I hope so anyway) and a few more quality players to return, todays game at Elizabeth could also be that preview. Who knows, there is still a long way to go and anything can happen come finals times but at this stage any combination of Centrals, Glenelg and Sturt will be gracing AAMI stadium on the first weekend in October IMHO...

Glenelg 6 goals up at one stage then took their foot off the pedal Big Phil, i don't know if its you blokes that didn't play well, Glenelg didn't allow you to play well & tought you blokes a lesson big time.
Hey its only 21 pts, not much in it at the end of the day but its how they done it at "Elizabeth".
I can see this Tiger outfit getting better & better as the season progresses, it wouldn't surprise me Centrals don't make the GF, don't get me wrong i'm not game enough to tip against them.

Had wonderful day at HHO today kicking off with the president lunch hosted by Centurion, Royal City and Jar Man Out...nice of the club to arrange a Nth Melbourne player to be the guest speaker! 8)

Bays bust the game open in the first quarter after Doggies kicked the first goal....reckon we actually play better on the bigger ovals with our gun midfield...

Fair few comments about the umps, I reckon they over umpired the game, Bays did get a good run but maybe caused they played in front...

Back in the club afterwards was great to catch up with WHUFC and bulldogs2004...a great day :D

Dutchy,

Agree with you about the dominance of your midfield, which is what won it for you at the end of the day...

Yes, the umpiring was overofficiated today, but at times I was absolutely dumbfounded at some of the decisions made, especially by Rowston...

As said a couple of times now, beaten by a better side on the day, but don't ride off the Dogs just yet, they proved what they are capable of in that comeback attempt at the start if the final term. In saying that though, Glenelg won the game in the opening term and if Centrals want to go places come September, they simply have to apply themselves the same way as the final term, for 4 consistant quarters.

WHUFC and bulldogs2004 are good blokes Dutchy, no doubt you would have taken pleasure in telling them about your side's great win today.

Look out Woodville West Torrens next week, an angry Dogs outfit should head to Woodville to take on the dissapointing Eagles and we may have the return of quality player Ian Callinan for this match, someone we have desperatley missed so far this year.

Well done again Tigers, 9 in a row and won at Elizabeth for first time since 1992... Good times tonight no doubt Dutchy !!??
