Saturday night football

Postby giffo » Sun Apr 02, 2006 10:48 am

What a night and what a crowd! Congratulaions to the CDFC and Playford council for the foresight up putting up the lights. 7,300 was an excellent result with the Poor playing at AAMI at the same time. I can't see the figure being beaten in the West, Glenelg games but hopefully by Sept 2, all the North supporters wll be onboard to come out and get a 10,000 crowd.

Good to hear it was a success. It gives people something to do on a Saturday evening and this can only be a good thing.

Well hopefully giffo - we will be up around the top at that stage as a "real" challenger to the dogs and the crowds should follow.

I think you've got to take into account the novelty of the occasion and the unfurling of the premiership flag and that weather will only get colder.
I don't think you'll get close to that again but I hope I'm proven wrong.

Well that's the best crowd in the SANFL for ~3 years IIRC, which is a good sign. What are the total and average figures for round 1 btw?

Considering that an Anzac Day match gets a few extras Saturdays crowd was pretty good! How far back in time do we need to go to get a higher crowd at Elizabeth Spelly?

Booney, all feedback appears to be positive about the night other than perhaps some issues with Grand Central which no doubt would have been difficult to foresee and should be rectified in future ... Obviously I follow neither club and didn't attend, but sounds like a great night (barring the result for Blues fans) which is excellent for the competition .. I'm glad it's worked out well and hope the Legs get a night gig out there at some stage in the not too distant future ...

Thanks for that WR. Interesting that Sturt regularly scores a high crowd against the doggies. I seem to remember the rivalry going back to when Darryl Hicks was coach.

Booney, I see you give big wraps to Ginever as a coach on another thread. Maybe you should wait until Port come up against someone better before you sing his praises. After all Hicks took the doggies to a minor premiership. Let's see Timmy do that if you don't rate Hicks!
