Went to richmond with a lot of hope.
West were out coached, Weed 4/10 Ginever 8/10
But the BIG WORRY
Ports are back to those days of a TOUGH side, they ran through the west warm up, flattened Ben Haynes the first bounce and have a player called Jeremy Clayton (Now i see why he won the magarey medal, would play well ib the power side and if he is not better than some of the players in the AFL i will go and jump. They put a little fear into the young westies players and some older ones, Their spine of Archee, baird, clayton, Morrison (i liked him) and Shithouse is very talented.
Keeping Maric in the side for the season and not in the crows will be crucial and i posted a comment earlier who is Troy Butcher and now i can see why the bays didnt want to let him go.
The roosters have been backed heavily for the cup as have ports and i can see why. A few injuries will dampen there season as the b's dont go real far but injury free BEWARE the magpies

I'm still not convinced. At this stage I rate Central, North and Eagles ahead of them. Still, the season is young and who knows what will hapen.

BY all accounts we played pretty well after half time. Sadly I couldnt go because I was at a bloody wedding. Looks like Jezza has taken where he left off last year. Baird, the way he has been playing, will be the CHB of the league this year. We seem to have a lot of options and reasonable depth with Surjan, Lees, Poulton, Ilett in the reserves.
Hopefully we can keep our key players fit, make the finals, and give the flag a real decent crack this year.

Nothing to really jump on as they only defeated West, not a huge thing at the moment.. seasons only just begun, never know what will happen as it wears on.

Geez with their (Ports) list they look dead set certs for the top 3 despite people bleating that they only beat West.

Well might you say that tassie but your club has a reasonably healthy financial situation albeit not in the North and Centrals league and certainly on paper better than Port Adelaide. So why has your club consistently missed out on big name recruits? Paul Blandis was quite scathing the other night on how Glenelg seem to look like luring a player then miss out over a small amount of money or unprofessionalism in their dealings with potential recruits.

Assume Surjan must be coming back from injury.......
Didn't go down too well with the Power the last time he was playing in the reserves.

lets not get carried away, the poopies were exposed in the finals when they tried to play tough footy against the dogs, no disrespect for Westies as they are re-building, lets just see this week how much the mudpies have advanced

I agree with dash, Port played tough and well against a pretty good effort first-up from West.
As far as Port's depth is concerned, West beat them in the Reserves.
I also agree with 1980 TM about the best money can buy. There is no way you can fit that lot in the salary cap, as I've been saying for months. The top three look like being roughly in the same order as player payments.

Just as 1 victory doesn't make Port Premiership favourites, 1 loss doesn't make West wooden spooners (that has been claimed by the Bays

) Weed may have been out-coached, but like his side, they will improve. It will take time for Wayne to put things in place, & for the side to play the style of footy he wants (& yes, the same goes for the Bays, Norwood & even Port).
It's far too early in the year to start writing off/praising up sides.

How can it possibly be too early to praise a side? Predictions can be wrong, but no harm in having a crack at one.
The 'Pies will be a good unit this year, with a poor exit to last years finals race still fresh in the minds of the players and some quality recruits helping to bolster an already competitive unit,we will around the mark.Tim Giniver is basically doing as Jack did, demanding a tough contest,long-direct football, and is once again instilling the Port Adelaide ethos which sadly was lost during a Richmond (Knights) inspired down fall.
Might get the old cassette out,"The Magpies, expect to win.........."

I'm just wondering where we're gonna fit Paul Evans in. Reckon we might end up top heavy.
And inevitably the crows will pick Maric and we're pretty thin in the ruck department too IMO.

Maric would be lucky to get in ahead of Clarke or Biglands, and with Hudson back later in the year we will have him all year I think.
Evans is 6 weeks at best from resuming, give him another 3-4 in the reserves and he would be lucky by that time of year to command a spot, his form and fitness would have to be impressive.

Well, Well, Well to those smart bums who said who did they play, westies are a very much improved side but the magpies are a very good unit at full strength. They destroyed the reigning premier, but certain know nothings like Centurion, Adelaide Hawk, SBR, Sydney-Dog & Punk Rooster believe that its too early, they are a very good side. Now from your replies where are the eagles and centrals now. At this stage ports norths and maybe a bit of a gap to the pack.
PS if Jeremy Clayton is not better than 20 or 25 of the Port Power list id jump, as well as a few other AFL sides, how unlucky are you not to be redrafted after a medal, your first two games of 06 you are BOG and you see some of the hacks going around. And for North supporters Nick Gill is in the same boat but his kicking lets hime down a bit.
