WHY DON'T THE EAGLES FIRE UP AT THE START OF A MATCH

Has anyone got any suggestions as to why the Eagles can't fire from the start?

Are the players tired and lost their desire?
Is the coach to blame?
Playing list just not good enough?

Also, how could a club accept this years programming with only one game at Woodville Oval in the first nine rounds - just crazy.

Dunno mate, but I wish this topic hadn't come up until a week later .. I have no doubt they will be that revved up this weekend it won't be a problem for them :?

Perhaps it's because our best onballers don't start on the ball? Stokes last year. McKenzie and Lindsay on Saturday. Perhaps it's because our so called "gun" recruit has been playing on the wrong wing until he was finally switched in the last quarter on Saturday. Perhaps it's because we don't create space in the forward line and we don't have a fast running full forward to lead into that space if it's presented. Inkster at Full Forward would solve that problem. He has the pace and is the best mark in the team. Oakley still has a place in the team, but not as our number 1 target at full forward. Combine that with a lack of desperation and it's a losing formula.

Our backmen need to be more disciplined. First and foremost, stop your man. Glenelg were brilliant at this on the weekend. The Eagles as a rule, need to play smarter footy. Floreani and McKenzie are possibly the only two that have shown that so far this year.

There are a number of new players and it will take time. Fuller made some good moves (or whichever coach made them) after half time on Saturday in moving Passador to Centre Half Back, but having done that McKenzie needed to be moved into the guts.

I'm hanging out for our first win. It's perhaps all that is needed to get us back on track.

Eagles supporters dont panic (for one more week). It is frustrating to see us give teams a head start, the club seems to accept this as we have been good enough to play catch up footy in previous seasons. I know the modern AFL style of game involves rotating the midfield, I'm not sure it works at SANFL level. Our players looked a little lost and unaccountable on Saturday, perhaps we should focus on getting settled before trying to break records rotating the interchange bench. The squad still looks pretty strong so we need to show something this week.

We just need to start playing smart EAGLES footy, just like the u17s and 19s, maybe not have fights (like the 17s), but being accountable, honest, assisting Eagles football.

No worries for the Eagles just yet, they will still cruise into the five. I agree with CP, lets keep any criticism for another week.

I for 1 was sick of the negativity of our fans last Saturday before our comeback !!
But having said that three times now Im sure my point has been taken :D
We need to get the ball away from centre we are having trouble doing this ,the bays manned up very well on saturday and at times they flooded and at times had 2 or 3 palyers on Skippy. We did not for the second week in a row man up in the backline and 1 Mr Earl was benched for not manning up in our back line (or it appeared that way to me )
Quote Aerie
Inkster at Full Forward would solve that problem.
I was critical of Inkster being played as an onballer at one stage he spoiled one of his team mates in the backline which ended in a bay goal .When he was moved back to the forward line he kicked goals and we got back to 5points behind .
I believe we need to bring up some guys from the seconds to bolster the league IE Bolton and co and Lindsey needed match fitness which hopefully he got from Saturday's game .
It is totally understandable for fans to get frustrated and to see the likes of Cica and others getting frustrated at this time we need to go back to the KISS principle, get the ball move it forward quickly and score and if the other team gets the ball man up .
Any talk from our fans and other teams fans of sacking our Coach should be left until the end of the season .
