Make the programme malleable

I think the SANFL shows some imagination but not quite enough sometimes.

My idea is to once, twice or three times a year be flexible with the programme. What I mean is if you can see in a week or twos time that there is going to be a blockbuster game between two form teams move the game to a day where crowd numbers can be maximised.

North are due to play Port at Prospect on Saturday May 13. This looks like a top of the table clash between two traditional clubs who can bring in a crowd when in form. Why not move it to the Sunday and reap the benefits of a crowd which I believe would be some 1000-1500 larger if they moved it. Fathers Day 89 was exactly this concept.

Anyway just an idea.

Sunday May 14 is Mother's Day isn't it? I know Father's Day 1989 worked but that was pre-AFL and i don't think as many Mum's would want to take their kids to the footy as Dad's did back then.

On the whole not a bad idea to be more flexible with programming though.

Have you had a look at the draw -? Port Power are playing Sunday the 14th of May at AAMI. That will help get a crowd. Thank Jeebus you didn't organise the SANFL draw.

p.s. 80% of us want the SANFL played on Saturday afternoon. Moving games to Sunday will not guarantee a bigger crowd.

Just to re-iterate - it's "fixtures" not a draw :)

A draw is random.

When Central District get 7,500 on a Saturday night, it shows how important 'us' is.

Is that 80% of the people who are already going regularly (less than 1% of Adelaide's population) or 80% of those who don't go (ie 99% of the popn) of which if you just get another 1% you will double attendance?

While in the case you pointed out there are flaws i do agree with the concept of your argument.

classic example where a game should be moved to Sunday.

North V Glenelg this week.

It's a bit hard to go to a Eagles League game that is played on a Saturday when the Underage teams play at the same time. So Sundays are better for me.
