Changing Guernseys for Sponsors

Today South had different guernseys to celebrate the fact that Southgate Holden had sponsored them for 10 years.
I'm undecided about this, I love heritage guernsey's bur aren't a big fan of the "sponsor" guernsey unless a HUGE amount of money was involved like Carlton's M&M jumper of a few years ago.
Also, its not just South, the Eagles did a similar thing with a weird white jumper last year.
I'm already annoyed at the way some clubs don't even incorporate their sponsor's emblem into their guernsey and just plunk it on so it stands out like dogs balls.
One positive about South's guernsey today was the white trim, I like that.
Thoughts about this practise?
Here it is care of the Roost:

Souths "Southgate Holden" guernesy looks like sh!t, but still not 1/2 as bad as the Eagles "Barry Stoodley" guernsey last year at Prospect.;

Taking away the sponsors emblems, South wore this type of jumper in the 30's - I think?Image

The guernsey looks more black than Navy... Carlton are also guilty of this.

South and Carlton's old DARK NAVY Blue as opposed to Norwood's NAVY blue.

If a sponsor is willing to pay up some good dollars for 1 game I cannot see a problem with it, actually I would encourage it if the money went towards club renovations (new carpet and foxtel). I did think though, Budda Hocking went to far by changing his name to Whiskers for one game.

Beat me to it 66.

Just an old South guernsey with a sponsor's logo on it.

Glad you liked it! I bet South don't do a auction of the 21 jumpers to sell to their supporters - you will end up with about 19 spares!

And your point is?

What exactly did drebin say that wasn't right? Was a fair while ago for you South supporters.

Was at the game on Saturday just for something to do and I have to say I quite like the jumper south wore. I agree with the concept of honouring a major sponsor, for christ sake Southgate Holden have been a sponsor for 10 yrs now. In closing I think it's a great idea. Thank god they didn't wear a white jumper like the Eagles last season.

Agree. That white guernsey was a shocker. Even worse was the fact the Eagles players still had more pride in it than North had in theirs, hence the result...

A topic like this is always going to be divided by personal preferences ... If we were financially stable at the Parade and being a traditionalist (most of the time at least) I'd prefer not to see it happen, however given our financial situation I'd take whatever $$ could be made out of it if the opportunity arose!

I also think it's great to recognise significant long term financial supporters, whether there are other more appopriate means of doing so, is another matter ..

The white looks terrible, but in the end the clubs do what they can to make money. Money talks in football.
