This is from what someone stated on the Roost but fits in nicely with what I've been telling all SANFL fans this year on SAFooty, if you want to see a good game of footy make sure you go see when your team plays North in 2006, you might lose, you might win, but worse comes to worse you'll see a very attacking game of footy that puts the AFL crap to shame IMHO.
Scores this year at North games so far:
round 1 North 18.14.(122) Eagles 15.10.(100)
round 2 North 20.21.(141) South 19.9.(123)
round 3 Bye
round 4 North 27.16.(178) Sturt 13.8.(86)
round 5 North 22.20.(152) Glenelg 18.7.(115)
An average of about 38 goals a game!!!!!!!!!!
Considering we struggled to score 10 goals in a game with Darel Hart as coach its a nice change for North fans!
And hopefully a sign that the game is turning around back into the high skilled affair it was in the 80s that pulled the crowds through the gate as opposed to the dour brand of footy there's been on display at various times in the SANFL in the last 15 years.

Yes. I think the standard of the SANFL is up this year from last year, and this is one of the factors why.

It is awesome isnt it? Every week we have had at least one HUGE quarter as well, a couple of 9s against South and Sturt and I think a 10 today? Bloody great to watch, we get goals kicked on us but we dont resort to flooding and chipping it around when we get under a bit of pressure.
That second quarter was sensational, goal for goal and hardly a behind kicked!

Roosters play a great attacking brand on top of the ground - Ill be interested once the grounds get heavier and there is less running style and more contested ball, if they can adapt or come back to the field

I recall Glenelg in 1973 where Kerley seemed to have the attitude they will just kick as many goals as they can and if anyone could kick more goals then good luck to them. Jarman seems to have the same attitude, which can only be good for the game. Only time will tell if it is good for the Roosters, but I hope it will be. I've seen enough Port Adelaide flags for one lifetime, I can wait a little longer for another one

So no other club is going to come back to the field when it is wet or the grounds are heavier? Using that logic you dont think North will make the finals unless it is dry thru the minor round??? Just to refresh my memory - when was the last "mud bath" final of any sort in the SANFL???

NA V GL
I went to the game as a nuetral supporter.
I was impressed with both sides attacking footy.
In the 2nd qtr. NA 10-2 GL 8-1 an 18 goal qtr.
Dutchys point on wet grounds affecting North is
a valid point, I think the midfield will still be good.
Where they may struggle is taking marks deep
in the forward line in wetter conditions.
Gill and Weatherly took many marks today.
10 out of 10 to JARMAN and his attacking style.

There was the synchronised swimming event in the last minor round 2005

Only joking, that was a freak occurence. I've always believed when it is wet the skills rise to the top. Even I was a good player in the dry, but the moment it became wet, that's when the more skillful players would dominate.

"once the Grounds get heavier" - Im talking June/July & early August - didnt mention finals at all where obviously the grounds are harder and quicker. Its a different game completly once the grounds get heavier - not only can you run the ball as much there are less overhead marks which North rely on.....can they adapt and suceed? its a question to be answered thats all

I'll still back North then dutchy if we can keep enough players on the park - injuries are really telling at the moment. Another 2 today!

This Friday night game should be a corker. One thing I have noticed with North is that while its scores are impressive, opposition clubs have also racked up half decent scores. The back six is North's weak link.
Centrals will stake its game on defence while North will attack at all costs. It should be a good clash of football philosophy and tactics.

Absolutely.
Never understood the reasoning behind the theory that 'skilfull' players can't play in wet weather.

Well put GC it wouldn't be so much of a worry if we could put ourt best side on the park but the big men stocks are starting to thin and the defence looks "leaky". I can see a possible loss coming this week!

sly the Roosters are playing a fantastic attaching brand of footy, but in doing so the opposition is too kicking a good score.
My question to the forum,
Q. Can this style of footy win you a flag.
History shows that sides that go on and win the flag, have a verry strong defensive action, for example, Geelong in the 90's had a similar game but failed come finals.
The past ten years have seen sides such as Brisbane and Sydney in the AFL and the doggies in the SANFL win Premierships, these side are known for their strong defensive action.
Come finals time, games seem to tighten up and a different style of footy is played and lower scores are kicked and recent history shows that sides that have a strong defensive action who are able to put opposition under extreme pressure and create turn overs usually win finals.
Living in Sydney, I have not seen the roosters, port, eagles and co play, but I will be interested in people's thoughts on whether they believe that this attacking style is good enough to win Grand Finals, history shows that it may not be the case.

I guess after a winter of minor round games, the opposition have them worked out come finals time and can play the nullifying trump cards on these sides to more effect when it counts.
