Heard from a mate whos best mates with Eckers that he might leave Sturt and come to Norwood, who he played for in the juniors b4 hand because he feels hes not getting a decent run with the Double Blues. Will be a good pick up if he moves to The Parade!

Its not usually that easy! There are rules about AFL listed players switching clubs.

hmm. Dunno. Id prefer him to stick it out and try and win his way back in the side and get into great form instead of simply swapping. Its not like hes been in excellent form and isnt getting a go.

Can't see it happening, even if it was true. As mentioned there are rules plus I couldn't see him getting any better run at Norwood. Its a good test for a player to earn their spot at the SANFL club.

Like Jacob Surjan you mean :) No, seriously, I agree with you. It shows more character to hang in there an prove yourself to the selectors. On the transferring thing, I remember they had a rule that an SANFL club couldn't play an AFL player in the reserves 2 weeks in a row, otherwise he could get an automatic clearance, like Gilligan from North Adelaide to Port Adelaide a few years ago. I don't know what the rule is now, but Eckermann has missed the past 2 games and his AFL club would want him to be playing the highest level possible.

I think the main rules that is enforced is that the player cant drop below the reserves grade or he is to move clubs as I think might have been the case with Luke Peel. There might be other ones but I know the player is offered to last place first and then works up the ladder.

Surely he could be play wing in Sturts league side.

I kept thinkin he was injured until seein him named in the reserves.

Maybe hes had a drop in attitude in recent weeks. Would be nice to see if he has the character to fight his way back into the league side.

The rule is that an AFL listed player, when returning to the SANFL from an AFL match, must play 2 games at Senior level before being able to be dropped to lower grades. This is why Surjan was moved by the Power. He was dropped to the reserves after one match.

I believe there is also a rule that the two AFL clubs have the right to move an AFL listed player, if that player hasnt played at least three league games by mid season. If the club thinks they are getting harshly treated, they can be moved. Matthew Smith did this. Brent Reilly was close too.

Adelaide Hawk - I dont think that rule exists anymore, as many AFL listed players spent majority of seasons in the reserves when developing.

Eckers form in the first few games was fairly ordinary (admittedly he wasnt on his own)
he has played well the last 2 weeks in the 2's so it would not surprise to see him back in the seniors when we next play

if he is starting to have a sook now maybe he needs to have a good look at himself, he is only 19
and I think it is the first time he has been dropped from the firsts

I'm sure you are right because I recall seeing several AFL players in the reserves since then.

I think the SANFL has to sign off on any changes. If they think something dodgy is going on regarding which clubs the players are going to, they can block that move.

I thought that the rule was that if you are an AFL listed player and not listed to play for the SANFL club that you are aligned to that you can change clubs.

The Eagles should have a pretty impressive Reserves' side this week.

Thomson, DeLuca Eckermann etc.
