You'd have to question the logic of choosing West v Eagles as the televised game this week. Surely Bays v Magpies?

absolutely...shocking, but i reckon maybe it was chosen a few weeks prior???

if not, then a silly decision.

There will be a lower crowd there on Saturday, due to it being a tv game, would have gotten another couple hundred at the game, if abc was at another game.

Besides last weeks game, they have seemed to show mainly the struggling sides. Games at Noarlunga and Unley are terrible for television. Having said that, maybe this is one of the reasons for better crowds this year. The average games are going to get average crowds anyway, so better to have a few hundred drop off than a couple of thousand.

so you think that by showing the true game of the week, a few thousand fans wont go to the game??? i think you mean a few hundred...hardly significant...

There's very little evidence that having games on TV discourages attendance. In fact the reverse occurs. The more publicity the higher the attendance.

The decision to telecast this game was made purely on the basis that the ABC is committed to covering at least one game from every ground in the first 8 rounds. There hasn't been a game telecast from Richmond yet, hence that will be covered this week.

When the Eagles are on the TV, the ratings go up. Don't say they don't because it's well known.

well obviously with north against norwood on friday the match of the day (on paper) has to be port v glenelg & i wouldn't think it being on tv would detract from the crowd, what detracts from the crowd is the 50/50 people that make the decision to go or not on the day & that decision is usually made by the weather, in my case even if its snowing i'll be there

It's well known by the people that know it and not so well known by the people that don't - like me

But this particular choice of Match of the Round is not based on popularity, the ABC makes sure it visits each ground once during the season. There probably won't be many opportunities to visit Richmond given Wests' position for a proper "MOTR", so they created this one, given that Alberton has already been seen this year on ABC.

Are you a broom salesman spelly? - because that is a "sweeping" statement.

You couldn't base that on the Eagles membership or actual game attendances because despite their success at being a league leader since 1991 with a combined supporter base to tap from - their crowds are shithouse.

Maybe lot's of old folks, bed ridden and unable to go to games are Eagles supporters and tune in when on the TV?

Still waiting to see the "stats" that back you up?
