Ill have another crack at picking a final team based on the new squad:

F: Warren, Schell, Kenna
HF: Borlace, Gill, Inkster
C: Fisher, Sheedy, Backwell
HB: Thomas (Capt), Baird, Powell
B: McKenzie, AhChee, Ivens

R: Kirk, Gowans, Clayton, J

Int: Parry, Howard, Campbell, Clayton, M (V-C)

Wouldnt risk Wintle with a hammy I presume?

I'll have the two best ruckmen in the side in Lindsay and O'Hara.

75% of the year has been in defence. The rest at Full Forward.

Without having any idea of the opposition lineup, I reakon Zorsi must be stiff not to have scored a guernsey ... Has beaten every opponent this season with the exception of Chambers in Round 2, and set's up many an attacking foray from back there

I'd give the state captaincy to Sheedy or Howard (in the absence of Wintle)

that'd be a huge honor for sheeds...didnt think he was a chance for a major leadership role at sturt, well, one that was recongised anyway, but being named capt of the SA side would be huge!!!

also, looking at the side...really only sheedy, howard and borlace would be in the running for it.

I know it doesnt really have to work out this way but I would ahve thought the capt would be an existing captain. Thats why I went for Thomas.

CHAMBERS + BAIRD in.

SA will miss CHAMBERS as he has performed well in past state games.

Still quoted at $50 + $30[twice] on John Thorntons website
today for the Magery Medal, even though he CANT win it
after being suspended for 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BAIRD is a star player if no one has seen him.

I don't think Gill will play for SA either as he will miss this Friday night especially if Motlop gets the boot from the Power - another week off plus missing the State game and then back fit and ready for the Eagles game.

The State team really should be playing Gill, Wintle etc. I'd rest up Inkster, Powell and McKenzie though.

Does anyone else just hope their teams star players get through the game without injury and not really care about the result or is it just me? Surely there is just as much honour in just naming the SANFL Team of the Year on Magarey Medal night or something, as opposed to playing a game full of highly paid interstate recruits and bragging we're the best league outside AFL just because we can afford it.

WHAT A JOKE

Postby eaglehaslanded » Thu May 18, 2006 10:02 pm

What a joke, that Daniel Schell has been added after hardly any games played this season. Mark Passador is easily one of the best forwards of the competition and yet still even after Chambers was taken out they couldn't find a spot for him. Just a bit stiff if you ask me. And what about joke no.2. Still no Paul Lindsay in the squad either. How the SANFL expects to win this game is beyond me without the best ruckman in the state playing. SANFL and it's selectors are a disgrace and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the sandgropers win this one.

mate it is like picking any representative side, your selection criteria is based on numerous components, form, fitness, have they done the job before......

obviously in Hart's eyes he has confidence in Schell, he was a member of last years side and has been the best forward in the SANFL over the past couple of seasons,
