Next Sunday will mark the third time the sides have met in a Reserves Grand Final; the Eagles winning both of the other two meetings in 1992 and 1993. The sides met in last years finals series; the Eagles coming from the Elimination Final, winning in the Preliminary Final by one point - 14.12 to 14.11.
Both sides will come into this match with a contrast of preparation. Glenelg has also come from the Elimination Final, and have played six matches in six weeks, while the WWT side has had just three matches in that time. And only one match in the past four weeks, that being the 2nd Semi final victory over Central District.
You could make cases on what is a better way to enter a Grand Final - the rest or the unblemished cycle of matches. On form wise, Glenelg are on a roll with six wins on the trot by 44, 90, 111, 15, 1 and 13 points. While the Eagles in their last six matches consisted of a 66 point loss to North (the team who last defeated Glenelg), wins of 11, 79 and 104 points then the 90 point loss to Glenelg, followed by a win over Central by a similar margin (91 points).
It has been easier to win a flag from the Elimination Final in the Reserves than the League - there have been four such occasions - South in 1979, Woodville in 1987, Torrens in 1990 and Eagles in 2000. In addition to those, Sturt in 1982, Woodville in 1988, South in 1995 and Eagles last season have finished runners-up in the Grand Final. Therefore Glenelg have become the sixth club and the 9th time to have at least reached the Grand Final.

I don't think Eagles new coach will try to attract many - if any - players from Glenelg. We need a few key players and not just fringees from other clubs. Without researching the fact I believe there is almost an unwritten code about club switching coaches trying to poach players from their existing club. Rick MacGowan stated this when he switched from the Eagles to Sturt and he was very popular with the Eagles players. In addition Glenelg has appeared to cooperate with Mick Godden getting the Eagles job and I am sure the Eagles will respect this.

Get over it Micky!!!
From the messenger;
Interestingly, Godden could coach against the Eagles in the Reserves finals, if his Glenelg side can win through to the preliminary or grand final.
Eagles CEO Chris Davies said the possibility of Godden coaching against his new club did not present a conflict of interest.
``Certainly not from my perspective,’’ Davies said.
``Anyone that thinks there might be obviously isn’t taking in to consideration the professionalism of Michael Godden and the two football clubs involved.’’

I hope that will not be lost on the players - possibly some careers are on the line in this match.

Eagles to kick 50 goals and break the record.

Some tough decisions to be made about who makes the cut for the Eagles final 21, the expericence of Fiacchi and Wright could be useful but they have both been missing for a while.

Plus 19 of those have played at least one League match, including the entire forward lines and centre line, along with the followers divison. Two have played in the 2006 League premiership and one in the 2004 Reserves premiership.
