Jars 'gagged'!

Postby Wedgie » Mon Jun 26, 2006 6:17 pm

I found this interesting on the official NAFC site:

Rooster fans have enquired as to why Andrew Jarman is "Not available for comment". Earlier this year the Budget contacted all League Coaches and sought their responses to a series of questions. In Andrew's case, the Budget writer encouraged a more light hearted response to which Andrew duly obliged - not that he needed much encouragement anyway!

It appears that not all his responses met with everyone's approval, as several have essentially been censored by either the Budget or the SANFL itself. North Adelaide Football Club fully supports our Coach and given the amount of publicity he generates for the SANFL competition so should everyone else.

Wedgie,

who are you quoting in your post?

I'd find it interesting if the Budget censored him, although the SANFL as the publisher has every right to censor any comment.

how bout his comments on ch 10 news tonight about some ideas for the future of the SANFL.

here is the general gist of what he said:

1) get rid of u17&19s and replace it with an u18 comp
2) play the ne u18 comp before the ressies @ say 9am
3) have midweek u16 comp to allow the school footy kids play for SANFL club
4) ablolish the 300k salary cap to improve the standard of the competition even further (this one has some merit when all clubs are in a position to do this)
5) more night footy

Except for Night Footy (perhaps more of it when its warmer and less of it in June would be better) I agree with most of what he's said.
Junior footy/school footy seems to be more of an issue now than it ever has for some reason, the amount of players most clubs turnover in their juniors is absolutely astronomical!

Agree with everything bar night footy- perhaps night footy should be limited to March/April (2 games a weekend), & maybe the last 2 minor rounds?

AAAGHH, I'm finding myself agreeing with Punky and Wedgie, Jars is pretty much spot on.

10 years ago I thought you still needed the 17s and 19s. Now as the game has developed and the Power is in I think it is time for an U/18s comp played at 9:00 before the 2s.

I would like to know how many 2nd year U/19s go on to play league footy. Most of the good kids are playing 2s and 1s footy by the time they are 18-19 now.....

For the late developing tall blokes you could do what the U/18s are doing in victoria now each TAC cup side is allowed 2 "U/19s" as tall development players. The Div 2 U/18 championship teams are allowed 6 "U/19" players, e.g. Phill Bennett and Sean Cantwell from the Bays in recent years.......

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Strongly agree with the first three points. I think a salary cap is still important, but it could perhaps be higher if clubs are for it. We could have a few more games of night footy replacing those rounds where there are 3-4 Saturday arvo matches. His other point in the paper was to put a roof on AAMI or Adelaide Oval. I would think that is a waste of money.

We're trying to get rid of the U17's at Central as we speak, by ensuring that they don't score.

I have to agree with all of this except point 4, perhaps that needs a bit of work. I don't know if you can abolish it altogether but certainly can be raised.

If you replace the 17s and 19s with U18s and play them before the reserves, then what am I going to do as I help the 17s and 19s. It means that there's more work and pressure (and that leads to stress) for the trainers of the League and Reserves.

By consolidating to an under 18's competition do you really think this will help as we will then have less players in the u/18 base playing for SANFL clubs?
