Not certain if this is the right section of SA Footy. But like all Eagles members I received this Email tonight.
It is with much sadness that the Woodville West Torrens Football Club advises of the passing of former Champion and Life Member Kevin McSporran.
His playing record at West Torrens and Woodville is as follows:
He played 176 games from 1969-1973 and 1977-1982 and kicked 216 goals.
He was Club Champion in 1977, 1978, 1980 an 1981. He represented South Australia in 1980 and 1981.
He was Vice Captain in 1981 and 1982 and Leading Goal Kicker in 1979.
He was awarded Life Membership of West Torrens Football Club in 1982.
He transferred to the Woodville Football Club in 1983 and played 14 games and kicked 29 goals.
On behalf of the Board, Officials, Staff and Players at the Woodville West Torrens Football Club we extend our sympathies to the McSporran family.
With sadness I read this email. Many many games I watched Macca play for West Torrens before he transferred to Woodville.
One of his best games (I watched) for torrens was on the wing at Elizabeth Oval way back in the day.
My heart goes out to his family .

RIP Kevin and condolences to the family and Eagles Football Club...
That is 2 passings for the Eagles in the last 2 weeks with the mother of former CEO John Kantilaftis passing away late last week...
The Eagles reserves and league players wore black armbands as a mark of respect to John's mother, I'd suggest the boys will be wearing the balck armbands again this week.

A very sad loss. I remember him very well in his second stint in SANFL, one of those players who was at the fall of the ball at just the right time and a lovely finisher.

That's sad, I used to spend more time at Thebby in the late 70s and early 80s than anywhere else so saw a lot of his games. RIP Kevin.

Thats a real shame. Kevin played with West Augusta for many years winning for memory 3 consecutive Madigan Medals. He domianted the SGL and went on to be a successful coach.

4 medals. '74, '75, '76 after his 1st SANFL stint, then '85 after finishing with Woodville

So he had 2 stints with WT, then finished at Woodville?
I can remember in 1980 when i first started going to SANFL games, he was probably Torrens' key player that year.

IIRC he travelled from Port Augusta for parts of his career?
I think Mr Cornes wrote a fantastic profile of him in the past five years.
Condolences to all.

McSporran my favourite ever Torrens player in my time watching them. Skillful, read the play beautifully and gave 100% in every game he played. A great club man and taken way too soon. Condolences to all connected with him.
'Mapsy' played first at Torrens under John Birt's reign. When Billy Barrott arrived as coach at Thebarton, he didn't like the fact that Kevin couldn't train regularly with the league team because of his commitments in Pt Augusta, hence he played in Pt Augusta for several years.
When Neil Kerley was appointed in 1977 to coach Torrens, one of the first players he got to the club was McSporran. He subsequently played many terrific games under Kerley. It is a well known fact that McSporran was one of Kerley's all time favourite players.
McSporran shifted to Woodville in 1983 I believe as Torrens was heading to a 'youth' policy under Glenn Elliott.
Kevin was also talented in other sports, especially basketball.
R I P 'Mapsy', you have left all Torrens supporters with many great memories.

Good bloke Kevin McSporran and a very decent player. He did a great deal for footy in SA, both playing for the Eagles and in Port Augusta and the SGL. Sad loss - RIP.

No. 13 - A STAR for our club in the 70's & early 80's...
I too spent my hours at Thebby as a kid, watching this bloke play.
Before 'Scruff' Hanna, 'Maps' was my hero - used to kick the ball around in the back yard, commentating (usually Torrens vs Port) - "Ebert gets the ball... passes to Bucky Cunningham... MacSporren tackles him... BAAAAALLLLLL the crowd yells... McSporren now, lining up for his 5th Goal, what a game he's played..."
Goosebumps.
Another sad loss
