SANFL Guernseys

Just a question to those in the know.

What, if any, restrictions are in place when it comes to sponsors logo's on guernseys?

I just looked at some of Voices pictures of the Sturt one and they appear to be plastered from top to bottom, back and front. What are the rules?

The rules state that if you're as broke as the Port Magpies you do whatever you can to survive. :)

3 on the front and 2 on the back of the jumper is hardly a plastering

Would be great to see just two logos on the back of the jumper and none on the front or just a little one afl style but obviously this can't happen with money being an issue for most clubs.

Ummm yes it is.

There is room for more underneath the SFC monogram. Will that then be plastering?

East Perth's is the absolute worst I've seen for the traveling billboard. This is just the front:

A Beautiful jumper nearly destroyed by ghastly advertising.

Think you will find that most clubs have 2 logos on the back of their jumpers. Not sure why Sturt have been singled out here. West have just as much if not more, Glenelg have ruined their traditional jumper by desecrating the gold sash for their major sponsor and Port would add more logos if-

a) They could find more sponsors,
b) They minimise the prison bars

Both scenarios highly unlikely ;)

I think you're spot on with that observation - AFAIK Centrals and Norwood are the only clubs that have the major sponsor only on their guernsey

Disagree with that. The large white patches on the front of the guernsey were far more obtrusive than the current layout. The sponsor's name in black on the sash blends in a lot better. All IMO of course, YMMV.

American clubs seem to survive ok.
EPL clubs manage to survive with 1 sponsor also...

Both those leagues have TV stations falling over themselves for the rights, hence why they can keep their jerseys relatively "clean", the SANFL does not.

EPL clubs also change "their kit' each year knowing that the punters will fork out over 100 quid to have the latest gear...

However with the debt some of the EPL clubs are in, I bet they would put more sponsors logos on their tops in a heartbeat if they could.

Logos aren't too bad if they blend in with the jumper. Norwood has been forunate enough to have major sponsors whose logos become part of the jumper, AGC, Fairmont Homes, rather than something that is tacked on with different colours, etc.

I'd love to see totally unfettered jumpers like back in the early-mid 70s, but so long as SANFL clubs need money, it's the price we have to pay.

Footy jumpers were great back them. First of all we had the lace-ups with Sturt, South Adelaide, Port Adelaide, and that West Torrens one with the large eagle on the chest .. marvellous. The uncomplicated designs of jumpers such as Norwood, Glenelg, West Adelaide, Woodville and North Adelaide ... I loved that North jumper pre-Big V days with the crest next to the V. And my favourite Central jumper, the one similar to the one Port Adelaide Power wear these days, blue with red and white Vs.

I look through my Mobil Footy Photos and marvel at how attractive the jumpers used to be, and then I look at the atrocities some of them are now. Shame, really.

Haven't you gat an AFL forum to crow in...

OK I'm not 100% sure of the rules but I think clubs are allowed to have one major sized logo and a smaller one on the front, and one large one on the back. However the larger ones can be split into two smaller ones provided the sum total of allowable sponsors space on the guernsey isn't exceeded.

CD or PhilH given their greater knowledge of the sponsorhip rules given their previous and current roles might have more of an insight than this little black duck.
