Agreed.

The Eagles were all over us in the first quarter, but couldn't get shots on goal and when they did, missed a couple of easier chances, while Port made the absolute most of our forays forward.

I thought Port had the better of the Eagles in the 2nd and 3rd, getting back on top through the middle of the ground. Going into the final break with Port up by 4 points, it was anyones game.

But come the 4th quarter, the Eagles experience and desire got them on top early. Some tough tackling and better use of the ball got the first couple of goals. Port then had a really costly undisciplined act, which resulted in an Eagles goal, followed by another shortly after. Out came the fat lady and that was all she wrote.

Story of Port's season - so close for 90% of the game, but falling short when it really matters. Still, like we've said a number of times this season, there are great signs for Bangers' men. If the group stays together, I'm pretty confident of a finals appearance next season.

For me though, the absolute highlight of the day was the talent behind the bar in front of the Williams stand. WOW.  :-o :prayer: . I know where I'll be standing again in round 23...hey Booney!

Unfortunately, Adam Grocke is too hard for the soft AFL basketball styling rules nowadays. Oops, now I'd better run and hide before MagareyLegend tries to put me in my place!

Ben Grieger - you were outstanding today, Cloke hardly got a touch, and also you laid one outstanding goalsaving tackle. BOG for me.
Welsh - should have got six goals, had you not caught the goal umpire off guard in the 2nd quarter and got the decision wrong.
Parry - so agile and mobile for a big unit. He had more possessions than Guilhaus and O'Hara would get for the match combined in the first quarter alone.

Port, once again do not let sides off lightly, however we seemed to get on top in the last but you can't let your guard down against the true Port Adelaide Footy Club! Milera cut us to ribbons in the middle for a lot of time; I reckon were it not for Grieger, he would have been a potential matchwinner today.

Well that is the clean sweep against Port this season in what have probably been 3 very similar games:
- Eagles better in the first quarter
- Port come back in the second quarter to be fairly close at half time
- Arm wrestle in the third quarter
- Eagles eventually too strong in the last quarter

Regardless of Port's position on the ladder you are generally guaranteed to have a tough game at Alberton, so it is satisfying to win there twice this year.

I thought there were two match winning type moments today. Grieger's tackle that saved a goal and then Miles tackle in the middle of the ground that created a goal. Was quite a good game to watch. The Magpies gave it everything, but didn't have any great targets up forward. That win should seal a finals spot. Good even contribution by the Eagles players.

Did Treeby play reserves or was he injured?

I have to agree with those two tackles - Grieger was superb all day and Miles' tackle was probably a two goal turnaround as Port were running towards an open forward line.

Not sure what was wrong with Treeby but he didn't play reserves.

Raises our best winning streak against Port to 5. Also, our most successful season against Port, 3-0. We also had three wins in 1994 (out of 5).
Since Round 20 1998 at Alberton, we have a record of 10-6 there; and 6-2 over the last 8 meetings.

Yeah, that was going to be my comment when I saw Grocke got reported - he is an important player for the Eagles, but is not up to AFL standard, so why does he keep getting reported for BS.

I haven't said much about the game Saturday. After watching almost 3 entire games I was "footyied "out.
Under 18's I watched from just before 1/4 time started off shakily and got better with each quarter.Reserves were never in it .
League game should have been the abc's game of the round .A close( perhaps due to umpiring )game Eagles first quarter was fantastic kicking into that breeze.Second term let them down .Third term with dubious umpiring Port had control took the lead and luckily for the Eagles the siren sounded.
Fourth quarter was all the Eagles .Fantastic footy Saturday attacking in numbers running with the ball. And of course handballing forward created so many attacking opportunities .
Ports pace does prove we lack enough pace but we also produced some fine moments from the likes of Polec and Smith .Forwad line was almost spot on with Welsh and Goldy .Poor old Welsh was trying to jump like Modra but he just couldn't do it .still a fantastic return from him.
Now Grocke's report I think (unless I am wrong) a certain umpire has umpired and reported him 3 times this year. And if he was reported for that bump after the mark why wasn't another Eagles footballer (who I wont name for fear he may get reported) who 30 seconds latter did the same thing on the wing near me to a Port tall ? makes u think .
Outstanding players Saturday
Parry
Rimmington (we have missed him the last few weeks)
Grocke
Welsh
Jarrad
Powell
And for Port number 13 was just let to run free all day !!

Mickyj - port's no 13 is dolling (frogger). He's been excellent for port over the last month. He always manages to find space and has superb use of the ball. He is a big part of the future of port Adelaide.

Devilsadvocate .I can understand why .He looked rather tired after 1 run in the last term .perhaps he had run himself ragged .He certainly wasn't picked up by any Eagles players.

Grieger was outstanding @ Full back.

How Grocke got reported for that, I do not know!
The umpire concerned is consistently hopeless with those type of decisions... pathetic!

Polac played well too.
Not sure Day is up to League standard yet... perhaps only in the side because Broady, Salter & Shultz are in the '2s'

Godd win... difficult run next fortnight... think we'll be playing Sturt 2 weeks in a row.
