Congratulations to Norwood on earning the double chance - that is a great effort.

Very meek way to finish the season! But coming 6th is where we are at at the moment. We need 2 ruckman and some speedy mids with good skills in the off season! I think our forward line or lack of is more a product of the awful delivery they receive week in week out! Regroup and come back harder next year!

Firstly, congratulations to Norwood on their efforts this year. To have recruiting restrictions coupled with a start of 0-4, to finish in the top 3 is a huge achievement.
Westies performance today was pathetic (even worse than our loss to Sturt at Waikerie last year). Without wanting to sound harsh and I may get shot down in the process, but Andy Collins has a lot to answer for. The appeared to be no intensity, terrible execution, poor selection in the final 21 and a s*%thouse game plan. He didnt make any changes until 1/2 time, when it was too late. We needed to attack as it was a must win, however we continue to flood back, with not one player in our attacking half for much of the first half.
What made me most furious was his decision to have Bennett, Hartlett and Lobbe in the forward 50 when it was raining before half time, yet no rover in sight (F Caruso and Rowe, both proven goal kickers in such conditions on the bench at this stage)
Collins is stubborn, as evident by allowing Nwd to have extra numbers in defence all day. Collins need to look in the mirror over summer and ask himself a few hard questions.
A good season finished off in terrible circumstances. What a shame after a promising start.

2009 Accolades for Collins getting WA out of the mire and being competitive, supporters happy
2010 Similar season and just short of finals, supporters, content , but disappointed
2011 ?
The much MALigned gameplan next season ?
It was not working against the better teams this season
10 wins
3 v SA
3 V PA
1 V NA
1 V ST
1 V EG
1 V NW
Nearly all those wins achieved against sides below them at the time of those games, except the EG win....?

the class level between the top 3 teams & the 6th team was very noticeble today, west never gave in but were never ever going to win & had norwood kick straighter the margin would have been embarrassing in those conditions
now for the real stuff

Well done Norwood and good luck in the finals.
Very disappointed with the result today. Too many guys out there not prepared to get the hard ball or they may get hurt. Exceptions as always are Ferguson, Ezard, Rowe, Silvester, N Caruso, Fisher and Willits. The rest really need to have a good hard look at themselves over summer and improve in that area or we wont be going anywhere fast.
Looking forward to seeing the reserves and 18s in action next week.
To the father and son combo (unfortunately they 'barrack for the bloods) who thought it was best to abuse everyone in sight players and spectators from both sides, get lost we don't need supporters like you.

I think they must have been the two who stood behind me the last time we played at Norwood. I don't think I've heard anything quite like it. All clubs have them, but these two were taking it to a whole new level

Piasente and Davenport came into the team for this critical contest and Webb and Beech played in the 2s due to the wet and heavy conditions. We started with Bricknell, Lobbe and Morris on the bench, Ferguson at CHB and Hartlett CHF. The 1stQ was a pretty even contest. No goals were scored and considering Nwd were kicking with a strong wind Westies, despite not troubling the scorer, would have been pretty pleased with their tough and determined approach. 1Q N 0.4, WA 0.0.
This presented us with a real challenge with the wind in the second but it was here that Nwd won the game, booting 5.1 to a solitary goal to Hartlett from a free kick. Half time the score was N 5.6, WA 1.3.
At this point the rain set in for the afternoon and the this would always favour the team in front on the scoreboard. Westies gave their all this Q. Ferguson was at CHF and took 3 marks, booted 2 behinds from set shots but we were unable to apply the necessary scoreboard pressure and despite having most of the play could only manage 1.6. Our second (and last) goal also coming from a free! Nwd booted 2 gls and both came from Westies blunders. Hartlett, attempting to spoil his opponent lost sight of the ball which was grabbed by his man who snapped truly and Bricknell, with a poor clearing kick, put the ball into the Nwd goalsquare where it was kicked through to the delight of the Nwd supporters. This was embarrassing stuff but typical of the mistakes we made throughout the contest. 3Q time, N 7.7, WA 2.9.
The last Q was an uninspiring slog in deteriorating conditions and we confirmed our position on the table by, again, failing to trouble the scorer. This was to make a full half of footy where we couldn’t score. Nwd added 1.8 in this term which saved Westies from total ignominy. Final score, Nwd 8.15, WA 2.9.
Best for Westies were Piasente, Silvester and Rowe. It was not a day for forwards but Bennett failed to register a kick (if he did I didn’t see it!) N Caruso, Fielke, Davenport, Green, Hill and Hartlett would have to be reluctant to accept match payments for their efforts. We were tough and determined and we never gave up but we’re just simply not good enough. Norwood were tougher, faster and more skilful. They created many more opportunities and were clearly a class above in very ordinary conditions. The West Adelaide faithful are entitled to ask how such a young and inexperienced team under a first year coach could so easily dismiss a more experienced outfit that has been rebuilding for 3 years under a well credentialled coach.
Westies seem to have too many similar type players. Rowe, Morris, Fisher, Caire, N Caruso, Ezard, Davies and Green all give 100% but they lack the creativity and the flair to manufacture scoring opportunities. Bennett, Hartlett and Willets are big men who cannot dominate a contest, take a great grab or contribute to a winning scoreline.
We have played 4 of the top 5 teams in the latter end of the season and have only managed 21 gls in TOTAL against them, around 5 a game. Not good enough.
The 2s won 13.16 to 12.5.

Interesting how different people see games. I thought Davenport's class in the conditions shone out for West like a fog lamp.

I had a Norwood supporter (mate) at the game today, and quoted much of what you've said in an excellent write-up - which must have been a little trying, given you guys miss out on late September action once again. Along the same lines as what I agree with what Bayman wrote, you summed up where you guys stand at the moment with your highlighted quote above.
Lets hope for a better Westies season in 2011.

Yesterday all three Glenelg goals came from frees.
In the other two quarters (into the gale) they kicked 0.1 and 0.0 - you could be onto something...
