Must see TV

Postby Rushby Hinds » Mon Jul 10, 2006 9:58 am

I have had the good fortune to already catch the C31 Tuesday night show, SANFL insight, screening @ 8.30 PM tomorrow (Tuesday) night on Channel c 31.

Chris Kendall and John Nankivell interview state umpires director Shane Harris, re many topics including the standard of umpiring this year, to bouncing the ball, to recent and possible future rule changes.

Shane speaks very openly, and doesn't shirk any issues.

Fascinating, eye opening TV

Umm, he has as much say in rule changes as we do. He like us can make submissions to the rules committee at the AFL the only difference between his and ours is they may at least glance at his, where as they will ignore ours......
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

at least in the sanfl they still play football unlike the vf whoops afl, i think the way we do it is a lot better than the 'so-called' elite comp, for instance things get reprimanded here even things like the 'mccabe' one or the 'parry' against norwood in the afl they would have got games no problems as for the rules commitee they change rules to justify their job & i dont think we bend over to them as much as you think eg we have the 25/50 m rule which should be in the afl as well

Tell him to get them to throw it up.
Its stupid that you'll have 2 umpires throwing it up while another's bouncing it sideways.

I'll think that you'll find that those bouncing it are AFL listed or wannabes. I know a few umps who are happy that they don't have to bounce the ball as they have crook backs and it has prolonged their careers.

Yeah I know they are, its just the lack of consistency for SANFL ruckmen that shits me, I know when I used to ruck it was very difficult adjusting between umpires that bounce it and throw it up.
Either have them all bounce it or have them all throw it up (which I'd prefer) and stuff the AFL.
