Cameron Ilett gets off

Would the SANFL be the only league where people found guilty of striking just get a reprimand??

MAGPIE FREE TO PLAY

Port Adelaide utility Cameron Ilett is available to play in Saturday's crucial clash with North after escaping penalty at the SANFL tribunal last night.

Ilett, who was reported for striking Eagles midfielder Hayden Skipworth, pleaded guilty to the charge and was handed a reprimand.

Although the panel, chaired by Paul Cuthbertson, said the incident warranted a two-game penalty because of high contact, Ilett's clean record and display of remorse ensured he would not miss matches.

Maybe the AFL need to have a look at the SANFL system.

Just lucky his name is Ilett and not Chambers and that he plays for the right club.

I prefer our system to the AFL as it doesn't discourage good, tough footy but the inconsistencies are an absolute joke.

Of course if you ask the Gowans twins or say Craig Parry, I'm sure they would give the tribunal a glowing reference!

If it is worth a two game penalty then how does he get a reprimand??? No point in players being reported in the SANFL. David Clarke from South has been suspended twice this year - what about his previous clean SANFL record given it's his first year in the league? He must have been a real prick at the Tribunal given that almost every other player over the past few years at least gets off first time around?

I would love one of the stats guru's to check up on how many players have been reported over the last few years and what percentage actually got games?

I can see an article of the future:

Port Adelaide utility John Smith is available to play in Sunday's Grand Final after escaping penalty at the SANFL tribunal last night.

Smith, who was reported for striking, maiming and murdering Central midfielder John Doe, pleaded guilty to the charge and was handed a reprimand.

Although the panel, chaired by Paul Cuthbertson, said the incident warranted a five year penalty and life in prison because of death, Smith's clean record and display of remorse ensured he would not miss matches.

Wondered the same thing mate in regard to Clarke ... At the time I almost wondered if there was anti-South sentiment involved given another situation involving them, but I guess Parry managed to get off as most do, so that discarded that theory ..

What a joke! I just read that article in the Tiser and it didnt make sense. They could have at least given him one considering they agreed it was worth a 2 game penalty

Gvein all of the reprimands this year, I think Clarke and Chambers are very unlucky. The only records I have of reports/verdicts are some I started to take down from 2004 - then I got lazy.

LOL,it appears a short fore-arm jab to the head is outside the rules, but, show remorse and you should walk free.Must be a good actor young Cam.

In bad news for Port it appears both Clayton (M) and DePasquale may both miss the rest of the season with knee and cheek bone injuries respectively.Clayton is to have his knee "scraped" and will miss several weeks and Depasquale has a depressed fracture of his cheek bone which most would think is 4-5 weeks +.

Speaking with a mate who follows the Maggies at Alberton a few weeks back Booney and he thought the thing that was really hurting Port this year was a lack of depth ... If this is the case then I would imagine these 2 are pretty crucial losses for your mob??

Yes mate, depth is an issue at the moment. It also appears it will only be even further tested by the loss of these two players as both have been/are important to us.

Port will probably get Stevens and Maric back in the next two weeks, not midfielders i know but will give them some strength in defence - where port traditionally start their attacks from and as relief in teh Ruck and can push one of teh ruckmen forward in attack.

Just as likely we'll lose Clarke in the next two weeks, making our unlikely win in two weeks even more unlikely....

I think that the League will have to appoint an official councellor to assist all the players who are coping with the psychological damage caused by a tribunal reprimand.

The old relying on AFL players is an issue which fortunately this year North has been able to avoid by extensive recruiting (and all under the Salary Cap too  ). Although Motlop getting "dropped" whe he did was very handy for his few games whilst our whole first choice fwd line was sittiing in the stands injured!

Port have been found out to a degree relying on having Surjan, Stevens and Maric in early plus a combination of Ebert, Wanganeen and Kingsley but the wheels fell off to a degree once they 'went up' or went missing with injury or retirement as there appears not to be too much depth at Alberton. Might be because most of their salary cap is paying 5 or 6 senior players?

The same thing could have happened to North in 2004 when we had Perrie, White and Hudson for almost all the year but when White and Perrie went "missing" in the finals we had no plan B. This year for North, having AFL players coming back now when almost all our own injured players are back is causing much discussion and is distracting. Take it from me there are some good senior players who would rather they don't come back because of the fact they will have to make way but they are the players who have got us top to this point of the season but may get dropped to accomodate them.

God help us if Damon White gets dropped because we will have along him (and with Perrie presently back?) a big headache with who to play in the key positions up forward given that Gill, Hargraves and Alleway will all play this week? At least Weatherley being injured doesn't compound it anymore! Hudson's return will also force Wakelin back to the ressies - which is cruel given he carried our rucks for well over a year when Hudson was up with the Crows and until O'Hara arrived this year.

Still we shouldn't complain should we with a "likely embarassment" of riches!

P.S. Just heard on the radio that Maric will be back for Port this week

Depth is a huge problem at the minute. We have a makeshift forward line, with only Clive a regular forward option, but he hasn't been right since coming back from injury. Having M Clayton and Ah Chee up forward was ok in parts, but it really took away from our defence, and now losing Mark is a huge blow. We've missed Kyle Jenner for about 7 weeks, Dane Fitzgerald has only played 6 games, Daniel Lees and Craig Taylor left after the start of the season, Julian Wait has only played one game, and Marc Bullen has gone back to Victoria. It looks as though Paul Evans will never play again, Steve Eichner is out until about 2008, so there goes our full forward and full back. If we lose Micklejohn before Maric comes back, put us down for another 100 point loss, our main reserves ruckman (and captain) Peter Mann hasn't been playing.

Mark Dolling has come up from our reserves in the last few weeks and looks like he can really play, Summerton has shown some promise, Looby should be able to step up when required, Dean Cutting and Dustin Pickett look like they can play league in the next year or so.

We've been getting injuries to our key players and haven't been able to cover them too well.

Illett deserved to be suspended for a gutless act at the bottom of a pack.

The SANFL tribunal simply cannot get it right.
