Fiasco at Norwood Oval

Postby mal » Sat Jul 22, 2006 11:01 pm

With 3 seconds to go the siren blew for an instance
and the game was called full time with the redlegs
hanging on to a narrow lead with the ball in the
forward pocket for Centrals.
After several Centrals players remonstrated after a
few minutes the game was restarted to continue for
the final 3 seconds.
The result did not change.
Common sense prevailed as the game was allowed
to finish to completion.

On a lighter note a Centrals supporter standing next to
me abused the umpires and the Norwood football club
for the mishap....He continued on for at least 2 minutes
with his incessive tirade.....I reminded the IDIOT of the
recent occurence at Elizabeth Oval when CD played ST
and that game was finished several minutes before time,
and the reason .. a train went past and blew its horn.....
The IDIOT was rendered into embarrasment, but laughed!
The SANFL alive and well.
ps: Go yoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooou legs

Don't talk to me about umpires, if they hadn't given Port 4 or 5 goals in the first quarter as well as some other shockers during the day today we would have won by well over 100pts.

Agreed its a big deal mal especially if it cost a side a game or a spot on the ladder.

Noone likes to be seen as whinging about umpires but its a little easier when you win a game by over 10 goals.

I've just watched a replay of the first quarter of the North v Port game today and I can honestly say all 8 of North's goals were from either free running play or marks but I made notes of Ports 7 first quarter goals:

1st goal awful free kick to Poulton
2nd goal awful FAD which resulted in Waterhouse goal
3rd goal legitimate
4th goal awful decision in the middle of the square
5th goal worst decision I've seen of all time when Howard had the ball and a free was given against him for Port goal
6th goal legitimate
7th goal legitimate

People may say why whinge when my team won so comprehensively?
Im worried because come finals time if there's a game decided upon by less than 5 goals it could be the difference.

Strange ... your thread was about Norwood, Central District, and the time keepers. Suddenly it's about umpires and North Adelaide :)

All that shows ( as if we didnt know ) is that the umpires are inconsistent ie. letting one game finish but restarting another one, and dont let the facts get in the way of a good story, the game was restarted after umpire Rowston was alerted to the mistake by bench officials. Two ( not several ) Centrals players remonstrated one at a time after the game really finished. Anyway it would have been an injustice if we had snatched a win in that 3 seconds and by the way we would have loved the game against Sturt to have been restarted we may have won by more.

I was listening on Life FM and when the siren blew they (commentators) were under the impression there were 30 seconds left but when play was reststarted there was only 2. Does it take 28 seconds to do a bounce??

As the players ran out through the parade race to commence
the third quarter, the mini league kids lined up awaiting thier heroes
to come out.
It was a touching moment to see James and Chris Gowans take the time
to run through and high 5 all the kids.
The twins slapped nearly every kid on the way through and something those
kids will remember for life.
The twins often get adverse publicity but I take my hat off to both of them.
Well done lads.
ps:The twins slapped the Norwood mini league team !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I don't know why the Gowans boys get bad publicity, I have never seen either of them do anything that crosses the line. They antagonise opponents but to my knowledge they never king hit anyone. They are good for footy, and a large factor in Central's success over the past 6 years. Any other club would have loved to have had them.

They do cross the line and can be antagonistic players, but
I have admired thier courage and skills at the clearances, and
also thier immaculate foot skills as well.
There will be a huge void to fill when the boys finally pull the curtain.

I think we hate the Gowans boys because we would all like them in our team! I have personally met the boys and had an opportnity to get to know them, and they are two of the nicest blokes I have met. They are tough footballers and fierce opponents on field - but genuinely nice guys off it.
