another cracking game night event from a Club that is finally heading in the right direction at a rate of knots. Might not be one of the big boys in 2011, but will be soon, both on and off the ground.

That's the 2nd straight time South have rebounded from a thumping away from home with a victory under the Southern Lights.
ie Lost to Central, defeated Port
Lost to West defeated Sturt
In past years South have started well then copped a hiding or two which commenced a slippery slope to a long losing streak as the season progressed.
Maybe ... just maybe things are on the improve ...

I dont think you can say their on the improve just because of that though ? But if you watch South ,regardless of results or starts to the season they are improving slowly no doubt which is good to see and lets hope it continues.

Its been a long while between drinks since we have had a win over Sturt the best being a draw at the start of last season.
Think Ainger is proving himself to be a useful player to the side and think we did well to get him into the side.
Its a good thing to see the club getting some wins on our home deck, clearly we need to take the next step and win one away, yet considering the last few seasons its just a good thing right now to be celebrating some well earned wins for the club.

let's hope so, so you lot can stop complaining about zoning and electorate football changes made 110 years ago. Also, please send the ground announcer to the next circus where his talents are most suited

Absolutely sick of hearing Sturt supporters complaining about announcers, fireworks, music, speakers in the way, cold weather (never been a issue with North or Port supporters)....I think you guys need to look into your own back yard to see where your problems are. Concentrate on your football issues...not ours!!
Great win over Sturt tonight. South's kicking at goal is a worry....should have won by alot more but poor kicking skills made it hard to really put Sturt away.
Joel Cross, Stribling, Mcleod, Liddle were great.
I thought our defence held up really well through out the game and when the pressure was on in the last 1/4. Full credit to the players down back.
Poor effort by Sturt supporters to bag their players as they were coming off the ground and fighting with their own...not a pretty sight to see!!!
Need to focus on Central at home (night game) this week....
We have the lows and highs through out the season...but tonight it feels good.

Last year....(just one, couldn't be arsed finding others but there were)...
Wedgie wrote:A big thanks to the South Adelaide Footy club for ruining what otherwise could have been enjoyable day, we got music and crap blasted at us from the loud speakers at about 150 decibels and then after each South goal and at the start and end of every quarter a running commentary from some moron that thought he was announcing a boxing match. Catering was great but whoever is handling the marketing down there should be immediately fired. I heard calls from both South and North supporters that they'd never be back as it was THAT annoying.
Ive just got back from the Chemist as I have a very bad headache from the pa and its moron announcer, thanks South and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Idiots.

I just logged on after being out for 2 hours since the game finished. No searching required, I knew there were lots of complaints early last year when it first started.

Catering was great, my main complaint previously, the PA was very good tonight, at the perfect volume, plenty for kids to do, good choice of food and beer.
Because of the weather I don't think it got them far but they did all they could, my congratulations.
Chalk and cheese with the crap we put up with Prospect week in week out.- Wedgie's quote from the North v South game (night game) this year (2011) ....sorry Wedgie I am using your quote as for some reason sapaul needs to be told.......
I win.
Now are we going to talk about the game/your side sapaul??? or more about your complaints with the PA systems volume???

Would have thought Sturt supporters have more to worry about then PA levels or styles of opposition ground announcers...
Stut had there moments tonight, but probably should have lost by more if not for South's poor kicking for goal...
Interesting question - who is under more pressure at the moment to retain their coaching position beyond 2011 - Mickan or Norman?
I think Sturt made a mistake in not playing James Wundke as the 2nd ruckman, Kurtze battled manfully and did well in general but apart from the odd Duldig spell, had to battle all night against the 2 Big B's in Brooksby and Bass.
Really liked the game of Joel Cross, looks better each time I see him, Ainger looks better suited in attack for the Panthers and I thought former Sturt lad Michael Leonard did a few nice things against his former club.
Duldig was well held by Crabb and Sturt just struggled to get anything else out of a key forward on the night. Thought the 2 Crows lads in Riley and Martin were good for Sturt while Joe Anderson played well in defence for the visitors.
Any Soufies know the injury to Michael Wundke? Was on fire in the 2nd term kicking 3 then after being crunched in the 3rd quarter, didn't take any further part in the game?
Well done South, the better team on the night won, Sturt certainly missed their skipper Jade Sheedy tonight, not sure why he pulled out* before the bounce?

Guess its different for each home ground, somehow cant see fireworks or music or so on ever being permitted by the local residents anywhere near Oxford Terrace, much less night games of any description. Think that as the SANFL moves forward that we are heading to a night competition with several innovations to keep it relevant as sides like South, West and soon to be Glenelg have discovered.
Football Issues? Wonder how many Sturt members have read the review under taken by John Reid at the end of last season? What were the recommendations made? Is it true that none of them were adopted? Despite the result tonight and in recent weeks Sturt have the capacity to play much better footy and if pressure from the members comes to address the issues raised, they could well come storming home yet this season. So I do agree with you there Southee, focus on what really is the issue at your club instead of rolling out the usual tired lines.

I didn't know that
never doesn't extend back so recently as
last year.
Since when did Hooray Punt begin barracking for Sturt?
Obviously I wasn't there yadda, yadda, yadda, but the idea of having a commentator over the loud speaker has always grated on my purist Aussie Rules nerves, just read my comments from last year when North played at Hickinbum Oval and you'll understand the sentiment isn't inspired by losing to a better side, but just something I disagree with full stop.
Anyway congratulations to South Adelaide for hanging in there for a win. By the looks of the scoreline Sturt were lucky to be in it at all toward the end. Had it not been for stray kicking the Panthers would have gotten away with a percentage booster.
As another poster has also mentioned, South usually get away to good start and then fall away. I think the script may be a little different this year, but after years of predicting an upsurge in their fortunes you can't be sure until it actually happens.
Best of luck to them, I've looked forward to them making an impact for years now.

12 players lost for various reasons - you work it out .
As for the PA , the issue is the PA not the volume ,it is plain annoying and so is the announcer . I understand why South are doing it to try to attract some supporters but over 100 years teams who win consistently attract support.

I dont think Norman is under any pressure at all.

true, the pressure goes once the inevitability sinks in.
