Instead of double header finals, why not some night finals?

Double header finals have not helped with attendances IMO, with finals crowds being down in the last few years.

Why not a Friday night final and a Saturday final or Saturday night/ Sunday final.
Would be better than a double header.

STERLING idea. Or possibly play the preliminary final on a Friday or Saturday night, then have the Grand final on the next Saturday arvo, thus giving the prelim final winner at least a week to recover. So long as they keep the Grand Final on an afternoon, I'm happy.

Actually its a bad idea as for the first 3 weeks of the AFL finals there's always games on Friday and Saturday night.
I just don't know why they have the 2 double headers on Saturday afternoon (as opposed to Sunday) and the Prelim on a Friday night to avoid the AFL GF then put the SANFL GF on a Saturday.
Simple I would have thought but obviously the SANFL aren't keen to put too much thought into it.

Wedgie, it is not set in stone that there will be fri nite and sat night games in weeks 2 and 3 of the AFL Finals.

In the last 5 years 9 of the ten week 2 finals have been on fri or sat nite with the exception of Carl V Rich 2001.

In the last 5 years 3 of the 10 prelims have been played on sat arvo. Port v coll (03) Adel v Wce (05) Haw V Ess (2001).

It must be remebered that only 5 of those can possibly be sat arvo cos u cant play both at the same time. So out of the ten sat arvos available in the last 5 years of weeks 2 and 3 of the finals games have been played on 4 of them.

I think Sunday is the only option. Sunday is proven as a good crowd pulling day in minor rounds. Unfortunately this year there is no public holiday after the GF. Have to have a sicky if we make it!

It has the last 3 years dash, the AFL are more keen on tv ratings these days and its a sure thing.
Prelims and Semis will always be night matches now, its the just the way things are.
Saturday crowds have been bigger for finals, Ive been disappointed with the finals crowds on Sunday's since it came in.
Ironically finals games only got moved to the Sunday to avoid AFL finals but now it makes no difference.

I thought the Preliminaries were to always be played on Sat arvo and Sat night from now on so each team has an even break till the GF?

Nup, last year St Kilda played Sydney on the Friday Night at the MCG in the first prelim.

The AFL should play the prelims on the same day though. The most enjoyable AFL day of the year was when you could watch a prelim in the afternoon and the other Prelim that night.

I prefer the friday night sat arvo slots

plus i rekn one team playing sat night compared to to sat arvo is a bigger disadvantage than one playing sat arvo comparted with fri night.

Brisbane were filthy in 2004 when they shouldve had a home prelim and the afl made them travel. They then didnt even grant the request of a fri nite or sat arvo prelim.

Sat night means non vic team wont arrive home till sunday

Just another thought....what about the abc telecast ? would we still
get to see a delayed telecast of the first game then live for the second
halve of the next one....that's if the finals were played at night...

No way in the world.

Finals are always going to be sunday.

Fact of life.
