The SANFL the high scoring attacking alternative to the AFL

With the recent low scoring defensive AFL games and negative reaction to them, the SANFL should now be really promoting itself as a high scoring attacking alternative, rather than the Tim Shaw adverts. Flooding tactics are no where to be seen in the SANFL at present. Each week often several clubs are scoring over 20 goals (including North, Eagles, Centrals, Glenelg and South in just the last 2 weekends alone!). Take a look at bottom placed Westies on the weekend they kicked (15 goals) which was more than the Crows & Collingwood combined and yet still lost by 8 goals! 7th placed South have had 10 goal quarters against the two top teams (North & Eagles) in recent weeks.
C’mon everybody spread the word, now is the time to get back to the high scoring attacking alternative in the SANFL!!!

how bout the SANFL employ a decent marketing guru who is willing to take on all that comes at it???
but that would require some forward thinking and vision which doesnt exist @ West Lakes anymore

I think you need to get over your hatred of the AFL.
I mean I attend the SANFL every week, and I love the standard of footy. But I also love the AFL.

I wouldn't call it hatred, just dislike of how the games are being played. I jumped on the Western Bulldogs bandwagon this year, and as stated, I will gladly jump on a teams' bandwagon if they score 200 points this year in the AFL.

Of course, I still watch the Crows matches though.

Come on drumstick, even you must agree the SANFL is more exciting. I like the AFL too but most games are so boring, its supposed to be a game involving players with greater skills yet i dont see much of this. The Port and Crow games last week were absolute rubbish.

Hey RoosterLad.
Yes I would agree the SANFL is more exciting, love being close to the action and the standard of footy is great. But I have to say I found the Crows game, except for a period in the second quarter, to be very enthralling and I enjoyed it. The Port game however was complete trash.

Couldn't agree more. There's no point having a high-scoring game, though, if it's high-scoring because midfielders don't tackle, defenders don't check, and kick-outs from behinds go straight to the opposition for another shot. From a very small sample size (one game plus a bit of TV), it looks like the SANFL has both the high-scoring and the quality.
Having watched my first live game of SANFL in 4 or 5 years on the w/e (Norwood v Glenelg), I thought it was both very entertaining and had top-shelf skills. Most of the players on each side, based on what they showed, could at least push for selection in an AFL team if given the chance. (In fact probably half of them either are, have at some stage been, or in the future will be, on an AFL list.) The number of stoppages were very low, as was the amount of sideways chipping to loose men and flooding. Both teams attacked and ran hard in numbers when they had the footy. My eyes were nearly popping out of my head for the first 10 minutes of the first quarter, in which about 6 goals were kicked and it was just relentless end-to-end stuff. While no-one has the fitness to go at that level all day, both sides still kept at it throughout.
As a Sydney fan, I've seen plenty of the opposite, making the contrast even more striking. Don't get me wrong: I'll take a premiership over an entertaining loss any day, and lack of goals doesn't necessarily mean boring: the 2005 AFL Grand Final was an enthralling game despite only 15 goals on a dry day. But from the football lover's point of view, Norwood Oval and not the SCG was the place to be last Saturday.
Huge shame that only 2800 were there. It was a game that should have had 4,000-5,000; or for that matter 12,000! Marketing the SANFL these days is a huge challenge, though, and there are probably no easy answers on how to drag more through the gate. One important part of it is that those who are dragged through the gate like what they see enough to want to come back; and on that front, the SANFL seems to be doing a great job.

The AFLs crap, I cant handle watching more than 5 mins of any game. Id rather watch a good Rugby League game.
The SANFL is sooo much better to watch and be at, as an eg I missed watching Geelong v Brisbane on Sunday despite Geelong being the team I follow in the AFL to go watch 2 SANFL sides Ive never barracked for in South and the Eagles.
The morons that go to footy park each week wouldn't know what they're missing as they're so remarkably thick and have no idea about the game.
Things turn in circles though, there's no reason the AFL might evolve from the current worst eg ever of football to the best again one day.
I have my doubts though as its so serious a business with so much money involved these days.

i go to both although i'm seriously considering not renewing my footy park membership as i get boored with the tactics employed by coaches on players, i know its not the players fault their just doing what their told to do, but what i always tell people 1, these blokes are on 100,000+ per year & the coaches haven't got enough confidence in them to instruct their players to kick long to the full forward & give him a chance one out (lets face it the defenders worst nightmare is the ball coming in quick with the full back having no help) 2, its ballet` footy (you can't even touch them anymore, if both jackovich's were playing now i think allan would get 4 weeks for kissing his brother !!!!) 3, if you went to the sanfl you'd be suprised
but lets face it most of who go to the afl games here (more so crows games) never went before they started & have no idea in any regard to footy eg, they have to put up on screen when to yell & barrack surely that should come 'naturally'.
its almost like they're theatre goers than footy supporters
personally i'd rather watch sanfl than afl as they still play football & not a combination of soccer, basketball & bloody chess even the umpires are better

What's the chances of any of the SANFL teams going defensive over the next 5 weeks, when finals spots are on the line. I to think the standard of SANFL games I have been to have been great, but a few of these clubs might have to start playing some real accountable footy over the next few weeks. I hope the keep playing the way they have been

jj, why would you change the style of footy that got you to the finals in the first place
