if mark mickan had taken the glenelg coaching job last year (he was offered it, renigged & went to ports afl side) with the inclusion of neeley,culpitt butcher etc etc would glenelg have gone better with them in the team this/last year or are the bays better off without them regardless i have my thoughts that we're a better TEAM & a quicker team without them

so what are your thoughts ?

My thoughts your much better without them.
But you were this good in Nobles last year for the last few weeks as well,
so lets hope your mob dont self destruct again.
Glenelg seem to be going in harder under Mickan.

IMHO the Simmons appointment was disgraceful in that he had no credibility with interstate players and coming from a junior coaching background it would have taken him a few monsths to change to coaching seniors, That put him on the back foot right from the start.

I reckon Mickan would have got more out of the players mentioned but there still would have been trouble but not to the same extent.

The combination of getting rid of the trouble makers and having an established experienced senior coach with a strong playing background on the national scene has resulted in a better performed Glenelg Fc that still has a LONG way to go yet in its development as a club as a long term ongoing successfull club.

IMHO - Backwell for one is a better player without Culpitt around, and results alone show that this squad assembled is better than what we had running around last year. Butcher hasn't exactly set the world on fire at Port.

It could have been worse, just compare Simmons record to Burgess's, now that was a shocking coach!

Could be right W, maybe Simmons was the best of a bad bunch, maybe he was the coach we needed to have to bring all the problems to the surface that caused the club to finally do something about the mess of we were in.

We were soooooo bad that it basically gave Mickan the authority to come in a make the hard decisions and say well boys its my way of the highway no more of this bloody tail wagging the dog....

Actually although obviously having a soft spot for Simmo being an ex North premiership player I must admit I went and listened to a few of his 1/4 and 3/4 time speeches and he came across very ordinarly. Very similar to Mick Flynn the diving coach who tried to look after us for a year or 2 in the late 90s.

I dont think those guys would have fitted into the team environment that Mickan has achieved.

They couldn't have been as good as they are now in my opinion, team footy has taken over. And i agree about Mouse, looks much better...

Alan Stewart was a junior coach and he is credited with the turnaround at Centrals. I don't think the Bays can be criticised for giving him a go, particularly if their first preference (Mickan) knocked back the job at the time. It may have delayed everything by 12 months, but it was worth a try whilst waiting for Mickan, IMO.
