We won't give up

IF THERE is a team which knows how quickly its season can change course, it's the Norwood Football Club.

Just a fortnight ago, the Redlegs were flying after gutsy wins against Central District and North Adelaide put them right in contention for September action. Suddenly, they are on the outer but in true Norwood spirit, finals are still very much in the equation despite taking on league-leading Woodville-West Torrens on Sunday.

"No-one has given up hope yet," Norwood deputy vice-captain Scott Borlace said of playing in the major round. "We've just got to win the next three games and see what happens. We've got to hope that other results go our way."

Even in Norwood's victories this season, there has been a portion of the game in which it switches off only to let the opposition back into the match.

In their past two outings the Redlegs have drawn a blank in the final term, allowing Glenelg and South to run over the top of them. But if you ask Borlace, fitness isn't an issue.

"Our fitness has been pretty good most of the year," Borlace said.

"It's more a concentration thing with us. We know if we're concentrating for the whole time, like we did against Central and North, then we win the game. We just tend to have lulls of about 15 minutes which cost us dearly, while the other teams get a roll on."

Against Ron Fuller's men such a lapse will ensure certain pain as the Eagles charge towards the minor premiership.

"They've got a quality on-ball unit and they are very even across the ground," Borlace noted of his opponents. "They are definitely the form side of the competition, so if we do win we would have earned it because they (Eagles) are going to be one of the major players come finals time."

At selection, Norwood elevated the injury-prone Andrew Hill to replace Crows-listed Chad Gibson, who has again succumbed to a quad strain.

The Eagles made two changes, regaining Matthew Cooper and Ryan Potter in place of Hayden Skipworth (Crows) and Vinnie Rugolo (knee).

WOO HOO, I'll be at this game as it is on the Sunday.
Any Eagles or Norwood fan should head down to Norwood Tomorrow (Sat) to see the Underage sides play.

This is a battle between one of the most efficient and one of the most inefficient teams in the comp. Norwood always gets plenty of it, but players like Bailey and Brett James don't do any damage racking up 30 disposals from loose in the back lines. Eagles are playing for top spot and Norwood are playing to keep their season alive, so it doesn't get any more important than this. With expected wins against West and Sturt to finish off, Norwood will throw everything at this game and have shown in the past month they can win against the best sides in the comp.

I thought Bernie Vince might be an in for this game, but he obviously hasn't recovered. We'll miss the goal kicking of Rugolo and Skipworth, but great to see Cooper back. I'm tipping a big game from David Westbrook after being a bit down over the last few weeks.

Over the past 5-6 seasons (2004 excluded), Norwood have usually done pretty well against Eagles. I'm expecting another close tussle with Eagles being a little too strong when it matters most.

Another stat is that Mark Passador is on 199 goals 99 behinds for his SANFL career. The Football Budget has him on 198 goals, but the Eagles annual report for last year had him at 132 goals up to then. Add 67 goals this year and the total is 199 goals.

Might have been the first season he was here - 2003, I recall seeing a one goal difference in there from different sources.

i'm tipping you'd be doing well to get within 6 goals. My tip would be a margin of about 9 goals in the Eags favour.

Seeing how all pecker supporters are related why not all head down after breakfast?
Norwood supporters will outnumber you without a shadow of a doubt, as it seems that no matter how bad we are going we have the best travelling support!

Norwood doing a lot better than North did last week.

Cicolella just kicked a goal:

Norwood 8.6 54
Eagles 6.8 44

Norwood were 30 points up at one stage!
