Fantasy SANFL 2007

Not sure if anyone else is in the AFL Herald Sun 'Supercoach' league but it's a great concept and I've really got into it this year. Basically it's similar to the Fantasy Premier League where you get a salary cap and pick players from all the clubs to play off against other 'Supercoaches'. Each player racks up points for things like kicks, goals, clangers, etc (all stats which are available to us from the SANFL).

Wedgie/Spellcheck, any way of getting a website like this running for the SANFL next year? Great way to get some interest going in our comp.

Great idea but a hell of a lot of work.
The only way I could see it working would be if there was an "honour" system involved where people added up their own stats.

Good idea, how about getting the SANFL or Phil H to help out with the stats.

That would be cool, maybe something for the SANFL to consider for 2007. Certainly a better publicity prospect than another year of Tim Shaw ads.
I enjoy the AFL Dream Team comp, but I don't enjoy the AFL itself so it's all a bit hollow...

Go the Squids!

SANFL wont go for it because it requires forward thinking and they dont do that at West Lakes these days

but its worth a try

I have been heavily involved in various AFL Fantasy Football competitions since 1997 and have often wondered whether it would work in the SANFL. I have never pursued the idea seriously for the following reasons

 The bye means that managers who have players who have the bye are disadvantaged in those rounds (this is the biggest issue by far)
 It has been harder to get SANFL stats in electronic form (this may not be such an issue now thanks to PhilH and Spelly)
 There are not set team lists like the AFL so it much messier organising which players are eligible (much higher turnover of players)
 Having AFL listed players means that many of the better players will annoyingly be "dropped" during the season
 Overall there is less interest in the SANFL so it will be harder to get enough interest to run a successful competition
 Personally, I predominantly see the AFL as a fantasy-football stats generating machine, while the SANFL is where I forget about player stats totals and just care about Glenelg. I am happy to keep it that way.

BUT...if anyone is keen to put in the hard work and organise a competition, I would be interested in being involved to an extent in organising it - I have spent far too much of my spare time thinking about fantasy football rules

PS heater31 - you must have seen the Chaser tonight

Marks should have a greater weight in the SANFL.

to get around these problems perhaps it could be prohibited from selecting AFL listed players and expand the bench players to combat the bye or limit the number of players that can be selected from each club. dont know how to get around the very large group of player each club can pick their teams from

Yes I did watch the Chaser tonight but not usally my regular friday nite viewing. Heard Chis and Craig talking on Robbie Buck's Triple J show this arvo and completely lost it at work for about 10 mins and decided to tune in to see the vision as well.

Perhaps a maximum amount of players you can choose from one club in the squad?

4 players per club (36 in total)-
a forward
a midfielder
a defender
a utility
Having a squad of 36 allows you to select your best 22 each week considering the bye.
No trades, what you select is what you got.
I reckon the mob that run the AFL one put in a lot of work- there must be formulas for re-adjusting a players value mid season etc.
Would be too hard I think, but enjoyable.

I like bigfootys concept a player for each team, best score. We could use the MAils stats as true(even though not).

All teams have an equal number of byes, so the problem is evenly distributed over the year. You may get screwed by it in round 3, but another player will get screwed in round 17, etc etc. All evens out in the end.
