South Problems

I believe the problems at South do not relate to management but to a bunch of old players who seem to control the club. Maybe they should leave it to the people in charge and the club maybe better off. The southern suburbs need a very strong South Adelaide and if I didn't barrack for Sturt I would follow the panthers. They have not made the finals I think since 1990 which is a bloody long time. Play the locals, develop the club and get them to finish 2nd next year cause Sturt will the win flag so the best they can no is second.

Since 1992. Haven't won one since 1990. Haven't won two since 1979.

So what are they doing about this then. Get a whole stack of recurits....nah that didnt work, maybe the coach might have to be looked at. Or maybe they should try to build a team around some good younger players instead of buying a team?

It would be great if they could actually make the finals. We may witness a "Woodville-like" showing from non-represented fans hoping to see the SANFL's perennial loser do well. I hope the die hard South fans aren't too hard on those that jump aboard, they'll never build up a supporter base if they choose to punish their newly acquired fans when the team is doing well.

It seems that South always have a problem. I mean look at their oval for one, they've got slow growing trees and oval drainage problems and a road at the northern end (in the outter) that when it rains is muddy for days after.

A bunch of old players don't win games today. Get rid of them. There is not one "old player" at South who can lay claim to a successful culture. Old players are better off sitting in the stands reminiscing about what could have been. They had their chance long ago.

Why wasn't Mark Demasi playing senior football?
I really can't work that one out.

South have all sorts of issues away from the playing side of the club at present.
There are 5 vacant board positions with a heap of candidates including a ticket of past players who have a number of issues with the board and the on field performance last year.
The current board have positioned the club in the soundest financial position since our inception into the sanfl.
My personal opinion is that the board should be left to do its work and get on with the job. If the past players ticket is successful I see unrest and another under achieving season ahead.
Apparently there is to be work done prior to the commencement of the season on spectator facilities, including terracing.

blueandwhite, good call. From my limited background knowledge of the "challengers" @ South, their business and corporate skill sets appear to be less then the incumbent directors, and may stuff up a whole lot of good work off the field. They may also get a surprise if they are elected to the many facets of running a footy club, which is just a tad more then getting 21 players and a coach to turn up at the correct oval every week.

One of the past players is having a tilt at his 3rd time on the Board,
having spat the chewie 2 times previously and resigning. I would have
thought the members would want someone on the board that actually has the
gumption to guts it out. Notwithstanding, that board member was actively
involved in establishing all the things that he is now complaining about !

I agree play the local boys and hopefully more people from down the South will follow the panthers.
I also agree that our ground is shocking, with the amount of money the club gets it could use this cash to make the venue a better standard for SANFL patrons.
I think the current board should be left alone as they are doing a good job with the off field. We were one of the first clubs to use pokie machines and although people dont like to hear this they are the saviour of the SANFL clubs.
Now many clubs have copied that and saved themselves, E.g North.
The Current recruiting techniques have to be blamed on the coach Pyman, however I think he should be allowed the full year to improve his track record. Pyman is directly responsible for our current player coming and goings.
However he was willing to go full time and that got him the job.
Anderson was doing the right thing developing local boys, but wouldn't go full time so the club got rid of him, wrong move in my books. Ando promoted Warren, Manhood, Jackson, Demasi, Stevens and Newberry just to name a few. However now Warren only gets a full game, a shame that these other players weren't allowed to develop more at league level.
