Sturt members received this in their weekly email.

ASSAULT AT UNLEY OVAL- Sturt v South Adelaide August 19th 2006

As you may be aware, a South Adelaide Supporter was assaulted at Unley Oval
on Saturday after the conclusion of the League march.

The assault was allegedly made by members of the Sturt Football Club Cheer Squad.

We have a number of witnesses who corroborate the involvement of Sturt Cheer Squad Members.

The young man who was assaulted has lodged a report to the police and we expect this to be fully investigated.

IF YOU SAW WHO WAS INVOLVED AND KNOW THE NAMES PLEASE LET THE CLUB KNOW ASAP.

IF YOU ARE THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE AND YOU ARE READING THIS, HAVE THE COURAGE TO COME FORWARD
AND ACCEPT THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS
.

This type of behavior cannot and will not be tolerated. It is important that we track down the person/persons
responsible and make it clear that they are not welcome at the footy nor welcome as part of our club.

This incident reflects poorly on everyone involved at the Sturt football club, it is an absolute disgrace
that you cannot go to the footy, enjoy barracking for your team and then go home without being physically assaulted.

I am sure all Members and Supporters will share my thoughts on this matter.

Thank you in anticipation of your assistance.

Stuart Totham.

Any ideas people?

i thought it only happened at elizabeth & alberton !!!! but seriously these people that do this should be banned from going to the footy

1st offence 1 year (barred from going to the football)

2nd offence life (from going to the football & all games, not to be allowed at a 'nuetral game' either)

if you cant support your team at any venue without fear there is something wrong, i think that banter is great & at times humorous but when it gets to abuse & violence these people should be banned.

Crikey!
Something you don't want to see but not suprising.
When I occasionally have a look at doubleblue.org I get the impression that the regulars on there don't have much respect for their cheersquad and the wife of the bloke who treated my termites despite being a Port supporters was absolutely appalled by their behaviour when she stood by them one match.
Its a shame as I love the Sturt Cheer Squad bring to games and I'm certainly not taking the morale high ground as North's cheersquad has a bloke who's a tad out of control too but to my knowledge I don't think he's belted anyone yet.
Well done to Stuart Totham and the club on wanting to clamp down on it but are they being a bit reactive and not proactive as I'm sure they were aware of trouble brewing in the CS many moons ago.
It might be a wake up call to other clubs too.

The most amazing thing of this whole episode is that the Sturt bloke found a South supporter to hit!

Who will be the first Centrals fan to say "well Cornesy will somehow turn this into a case against us" :D

But being serious, that is just not on, and I hope that this person responsible will be made to pay for his actions (I'm talking about community service/fine, whatever, not payback)

Actually for the first time in years (if not decades) I noticed a couple of cops at the North v Glenelg game.
Im not sure if it will be a regular thing or if they came as a result of a small incident at Woodville Oval the week before.
I only ever see Cops at North v Central games normally.

Going over old ground there Wedgie...
Last time Sturt played at Noarlunga I counted 23 supporters at the sturt 3/4 time huddle, and two of them were holding the barrier rope.

All I can say that it wasn't me I haven't been to a game since West @ Richmond and anyway I was deep in enemy territory @ the Port so theres my allibi folks.

This sort of behaviour is unacceptable, Can't people just enjoy a game of footy without getting involved in a fight?

Not overly surprised really. Remember a similar incident at last years CDFC v SFC game @ Unley and the media jumped on the usual Central hooligan bandwagon? HMMM, maybe those of us who were there and said it was started by some idiot associating with the Sturt cheer squad may have been right.

UNACCECPTABLE!!!!!!

find them and ban them...on field results tend to steer the crowd behaviour but some that hang around the CS have had tendencies to get stupid...something needs to be done.

make the CS official and the member of it have to be let in by the club. That will keep the shit out...

have you seen some of the scum that reside in the CS??? some of them missed an evolution for crying out loud...something has to be done, i am simply ashamed of some of them and they/i/we/the club knows who they are.

stuart will sort them out.

Reakon it would nigh impossible to ban anyone from SANFL matches.

As if the people at the turnstiles or security are going to police it...

It is a sad day when supporters have to resort to this sort of behaviour.

Sturt supporters are frustrated at being beaten by 100 points on a regular basis.

Personally I was happy as a pig in you know what in round 16 when the Eagles beat them at Unley.
