Cornes has been one of the dominant figures in South Australian football since the late 1960s. A high-flying centre half-forward with Glenelg in the SANFL and a key player in the Tigers' drought-breaking 1973 premiership, Cornes played in the VFL with North Melbourne in 1979 before coaching SA's State of Origin team and Adelaide.

Since he played one game with the Chardonnay Socialists at the Uni Blacks can we partially claim credit? :)

Only reason he got there finn ;)
I must say, that although I detest certain personal things about him, he has had a big influence on football in SA and Australia.
So, congratulations Graham Cornes =D>

Not a fan of him in his radio gig, but overdue elevation. His contribution to football as a successful player and coach at club and state level was far and away ahead of so many of those (relatively) anonymous Victorians from the 1950s who played 120 games.

I agree with you Jimmy - no matter what you think about him personally or how he goes on at times on radio there is no doubt his induction is very well deserved.

I think his attitude towards our area north of Gepps X has caused many bad feelings.
Personally I think he is a HUGE snob, but I take the point on his contribution to Sa footy so congratulations to him.

He would have been a good candidate as a coach over player (John Cahill should be listed in both categories)

Cornes did lead South Australia to four national championships, broke the MCG hoodu plus his two SANFL flags ...... prior to that SA had to rely on the VFA or Tasmania for wins. Possibly the greatest coach in state footy history

regardless a fine selection

Fos Williams might have an argument there.

Good point... especially with '63.... but Cornes had a great win-loss record at state level: but did have the benefit of 'origin'

Im pretty sure Fos Williams is already recognised as one of the best ever coaches from SA in the hall of fame

Agreed Well done Cornesy and it is why Blokes like Leahy, Davies and Bagshaw should be elevated to the HOF pronto. lots of players with lesser careers than those blokes but because they played VFL get in...

When Mick Redden is inducted to the Hall of Fame, I will remove thermite placed around the structural points of AFL House.

Agreed. Central and glenelg we're playing for top spot at Elizabeth a few years back, and he said "why would you want to go out there"? Not the best promotion. Also, when interviewing Jonathan Giles he couldn't come to terms with the fact Giles had got about 98 out of 100 for his matrIculation, via a northern suburbs public school. He's been the master of stereotyping and distorting of facts.
Having said that, he was inducted on his football career not his media career, so a deserving inductee.

Had lots of courage on the field there were many a time where you thought you might have to dig a whole for him after Dave Grainger had pummelled him but he kept getting up.

Also isnt he a Vietnam Vet obviously one hell of a couragoues bloke!

Congrats on your footy career

As far as your thoughts on everything north of gepps X you are a W**ker of the highest order.

Play On!
