Magarey Medal Night

Why is Magarey Medal night on the Thursday night before the Grand Final? Won't the two competing Grand Final teams be reluctant to allow their players to be distracted by the big night so close to the biggest game of the year? Isn't Thursday night training a traditional big night for fans to go along to training and fire the players and their clubs up? Why not on the Monday night of Grand Final week? Does the station holding the rights to telecast the event hope to fill the slot vacated by the AFL Footy Show GF show from the Thursday night of the week before (and get similar ratings?)

Id say Friday night training would be the go these days with every GF being on the Sunday.
Would tie in nicely with a banner making night too.
I like the idea of building up GF week.
Im also looking forward to going to Magarey Medal night as I have the Friday off.
Hopefully will get some good snaps for the website.

I'd rather have it when it used to be, the Tuesday after the 1st finals.

I think it is far too close to the GF. It's not a bad idea to have it on the same week as that, but Tuesday I thought would have been better.

This is a good idea to have it on a Thursday night IMO. Should get plenty of coverage in the major media outlets leading up to the Grand Final with Thursday Magarey preview - Friday Magarey review and GF parade - Saturday GF teams and preview and more on Sunday. Hopefully there will be 4-5 days in a row of SANFL dominating the Sports pages and that hopefully translates into a few more thousand at the game.

Of course, that will all be blown out the window if Crows win the premiership with every Tom, Dick and Harry with a microphone, pen or camera in their hand following the Crows around the country side as they parade their premiership cup.

Wasn't too bad in 1997 and 1998 when Port were playing Norwood and Sturt, traditional rivals and more space dedicated to the SANFL. But I'm fearing that this time the SANFL will be truly swept under the carpet if the Crows win, even if we don't make it and say it's North and Central in the GF.

For Adelaide to play in Perth, they would have to lose to Melbourne by about 15 goals and Freo to beat Port by about the same, cause of %. Both are possible, but unlikely to happen.

I think he meant for the Prelim or Qualifing final if they lose first week

My main concern and it has been since the fixture came out, is that the grand final is being played on a sunday the week after the long weekend.
This needs to be fixed just for the sake of the 2 clubs and their supporters playing off in the GF.
Imagine if your team won and you had to go to work the next day?
I'm sorry, but the SANFL have got this one wrong, big time!
