It is a done deal.

Peel have already signed with Fremantle (not sure if it starts 2013 or 14 though) and East Perth about to with West Coast.

Both clubs broke ranks after voting to stick together on the reserves issue (smell like 1990 anyone)

May not be a done deal if the other WAFC clubs simply refuse to play against either of them which was what was suggested what would happen if sides did in fact break ranks after they agreed not to prior.

I accept this is a strong rumour but have not been able to find any official announcement anywhere.

I'd be reluctant to believe it at the moment. I think it might be just someone trying to stuff up a family day. ;)

I was thinking along these lines. Surely a big change like this can not occur without the agreement of the WAFL? Its not like east Perth would have it over the WAFL like Port had it over the SANFL in 1990 ie if you don't like it then stuff, we will just play in the AFL. Where are East Perth going to play if the WAFL refuses this proposal?

The other thing I am thinking is that WA can't really value their local comp to much if they are prepared to accept this. I think the SANFL knows that the comp is virtually dead if they allow a crows and port reserves team. SANFL fans like mean will not go watch our team if it just designed to be subservient to the crows and port. the people running the SANFL would know the consequences for 'falling into line' for the Crows and Port so now the ball is well and truely in their court.

Can't find anything official anywhere. There's some talk about it on a WAFL forum, but again, nothing official.
Nothing on the Eagle's website, nothing on Freo's website, nothing on the WAFL website, nothing on PerthNow...Who or what was your source?

The WAFL is structured differently to SA footy

The WAFC gives the two AFL clubs a vote (I think it may be up to 50%)..... so technically it is very hard to so to them.

Look out for the big East Perth vs Port Magpies derby game, six times a year. :D

At least Port might win a game or two then.

You mean when Port and Norwood tried to break ranks from an inward looking sporting body.

please don't taint norwood with that foul stench of betrayal. What happened in 1990 is on Port alone.

Norwood had signed a heads of agreement with Port in the mid 80's that stated that both clubs would jointly approach the VFL should positions arise...Granted, after this Port did approach the VFL/AFL then to enter solely.
