Interesting call by Archard, but South should still win without him.

Harsh comment, he may of agreed to this even before the season started, the wedding may be a best friend, or family member, who has supported him all his life and will always be their after footy

I missed playing in A GF to be my brother's best man, it's one of the most proudest moments of my life and something I would regret for all my life if I did not do so.......

Do I feel like I let the club down, the answer is NO, the wedding was planned before the season draw and I continued to play for the club all year even knowing I could not play in a GF if we made it, and I played my role in the club making the GF

SD I missed the 1983 g/f for my team to be in a mates wedding.
But that was division 3 Amatuer league.
Archard is league footy, bit different.
I did say hmn. and is he letting down the club?
Ive gone each way on face value, maybe S64 or the SA lads
can elaborate, I am not aware of the facts so IM sitting on the fence.

Mate, family definitely always come first, if it's a life nlong friend then i have no issue, no matter what the standard of footy is

we now have AFL players missing games to be at the kids birth, i have no issue with this

love my footy, love my club but my family is my life, #1

If this is true I find it a tad disappointing. I guess it gets down yo his personal priorities but realistically we should still have enough firepower to get over the line v West. We have lost Archard and Torney and West have lost Porplyzia and Walsh so I suppose that squares everthing up.
IMHO Archard has been the best recruit we have had at the club in the last 2-3 yrs . If you have a spare bit of cash get on him for the MM at good odds.He would not be demanding a huge fee compared to some of his bigger named team mates. I recently heard a whisper he has signed on again for next year which is excellent news.

IMHO torney should have been playing for the crows 3 wks ago- but I am not complaining!.He was reasonably quiet on Saturday v the roosters but was far from our worst. Against Norwood I thought he was BOG and against Sturt he was high in our best. He is a very good player and plays with passion when ever he pulls on that blueandwhite jumper.

Who knows, given that weddings are obviously planned well in advance, Archard may have told them this before round 1 of the season and South would have given their blessing because he'd have done the right thing by the club for letting them know.

FWIW, from the couple's viewpoint, I think you're asking for trouble having weddings in September or March.

Postby bayman » Fri Sep 01, 2006 1:10 am

firstly organising a wedding when the bye is on or at the end of the season surely it would not have been that difficult

whatabout those that have plonked him to win the magarey medal ? what if he gets beaten by 1 or 2 votes !!!!!!!!!!!!
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

a mates wedding...hmmm...a death or family wedding maybe...but a mates wedding...give me a ******* break...well firstly his mates missus should be shot or even have a stern talking too and secondly, rhys should grow a few....but i guess its only our opinions and if rhys wants to go, then he can go....but if south miss the finals, may shit be hung on him :D

What an unbelieavable decision, just when you think South might have their playing personnel on track for the first time in decades one of the stars does something like this.
If I was a South supporter I don't think I could forgive him, let alone people like Punky who have money on him for the Magarey at great odds.
Still, look on the bright side Punky, at least he can't get reported this week!

I hope South get thrashed and then when next week only to miss out on the finals by % and Archard loses the Magarey by one vote.

Family (brother/sister) yep i can understand it. Birth of a child yep

cousins/friends - SANFL legaue players should be playing footy.

Hell, I've missed cousins weddings and then rocked up to the piss up afterwards!!!

I even told blokes who were invited to mine not to turn up if they had sporting commitments on, shit cricket and footy comes first....

It is an Australian to expect people to rock up to a wedding if it conflicts with Sport......
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Wedding window of opportunity...
October14th-Nov 4th (providing they don't clash too heavily with Group 1 races during the Spring Carnival)
Nov 4th- Feb 28th (providing that the wedding is planned around the 5 Test matches- no excuses, Cricket Australia give us enough notice)
Now that's plenty of time for these mad cows to sort themselves out, & if they can't, simple- don't marry 'em!
