NORWOODS pokies ?

Postby mal » Sun Sep 03, 2006 10:05 am

I take it the proposed site at Northeast Road is still firmly on
the clubs agenda, but establishing a base there would be a risky proposition.
On Grand Junction road we have the Greenacres goldmine raking in some
good revenue for North Adelaide, that competition is about 6 kms from the
Legs site.
About 2 kms away from Greenacres and about 6kms away from the NE road
site is the Rams complex on Fosters Road which will accomodate pokies for
the soccer entity[?].
The competition is also hot from many other Pubs in the near vicinity as well.
Is it worth going to the NE road site?

Also is Norwood in danger of losing thier pokies?
Is there a compliance which states that if a franchise does not utilise its pokies
within a certain time frame, then those pokies can be compiscated ?

Lets face facts the SANFL has changed in this millenuim, when Norwood was a force
it was a comp. that did rely and focus heavily on junior developement.
The trademark now is to secure a revenue stream and then recruit extensively
from interstate as shown by North and South in recent times.

The next 12-24 months are crucial to the Norwood future.
Pokies or perish ?

Ive heard Norwood are losing up to 10k a week and I'm sure the Highlander will try to drag it out as long as possible.
Hell North got theirs granted at Sefton Park without any of the pre installation hassles that Norwood are going through and we nearly went under just with the appeals which haven't even started yet for Norwood.
There's an ongoing thread on the Norwood forum with updates as they come to hand here:

The Highlander actually withdrew its objections without notice a couple of months ago.

Althogh that's coming from the Norwood forum, which is at time unbearable to read. Some of those clowns think they're still half a shoe in to join the AFL.

Highlander withdrew its objections to the liquor license being transferred to that site. Hearing for pokie license commences 6 September.

You can hardly have pokies confiscated because you haven't utilised them, when you don't yet have the license to install them. Plus, pokie license hearings don't have formal objectors in the same way as liquor license hearings. If you jump through the relevant hoops, you get the license. While the Licensing Court may allow the Highlander to appear as a 'friend of the Court' (equally it might not; I don't know the Court's procedures), it's unlikely that (unlike the liquor hearing) the Highlander would have any power to 'drag out' the pokie hearings.

North Adelaide were in the always-unfortunate position of being a trailblazer in its particular corner of the legal world. You can never rule out the possibility of appeals dragging out, but the Norwood gaming application doesn't on the face of it appear to present the same legal difficulties that the North application faced. That's not to say it will definitely succeed-- whether the application does reveal that Norwood have jumped through all of the hoops is a question of fact, not law.

PS All forums are at times unbearable to read. A product of the fact that anyone can write anything they want, without editing, anonymously. Nature of the beast.

Not sure when you last read the Norwood forum WR but at a time when the club is literally soldiering on against the tide of bills I don't recall reading much on the Norwood forum about joining the AFL?

Not sure if you read the westies forum or not WR but Norwood's major sponsor actually gave Westies and Norwood $1,000 per goal in the match 10 days ago. I don't recall too many other club sponsors putting up prizemoney like that for BOTH teams and Pickard has done that for many games featuring Norwood - particularly against Port but as we saw last game against Westies, not always Port. The Norwood forum also collected money for South's Kellie Barry which wasn't publicised. We may be struggling as a club and as supporters but we still value the rivalry and camraderie of our opponents. The AFL is no where on the horizon. Survival is, but this hasn't stopped the club and its sponsors still contributing to the SANFL competition and that comment was pretty lame and ill-informed. But, I'm happy to agree to disagree if that's your (considered?) view .

Norwoods Pokies

Postby sturtpeter » Mon Sep 04, 2006 12:18 am

I say introduce Legislation now to ensure Pokie Machines are only allowed in Sporting Clubs and ALL Hotels must be stripped of them immediately.

The initial bill introduced in the Bannon/Arnold period should never have allowed Hotels the right to have the Machines in their establishments.

It was only due to Pubs screaming poor in the early 1990's that the Machines were introduced here for their benefit.

The Barons have had their Pot of Gold,
Avid Sturt supporter and SANFL fanatic.
