Why don't we play SANFL matches in the country anymore? Some of my best memories are of travelling to Port Pirie, Murray Bridge, Whyalla or The Riverland to watch The 'Dogs play.

Yeah I enjoyed the country matches.
Why doesnt South play at Victor anymore?
Went down there when Norwood played, great atmosphere and a good day out

Why would they?
I think its great exposure for the SANFL to play in country zones. The South games at Victor usually attracted double the crowd they would get at Noarlunga.
I cant see the harm in every SANFL club playing 1 game per season in their country zone

It'd be great exposure for the Smoky Bay Roos if they played at Aami Stadium too.

If more players are deciding to play in the ammos, take the superior game (SANFL) to them, to show them what they are missing out on. PLUS the host club would make a fair bit of moolah on the day!

Don't think many clubs could afford to part with the gate, food and beverage (not that those things necessarily should prevent it from happening)

From memory, the Smoky Bay FC doesn't exist anymore, after merging with the Ceduna FC about 10/15 years ago, to become "The Blues".

Re country games - would Sturt v South about 4 years ago at Murray Bridge, be the most recent one?

I can remember in the 80's when they even used to telecast the pre season games in towns that were hundreds of KMs from Adelaide.

Reckon Sturt played West at Murray Bridge in 2010
I think there may have been a couple in 2009, I know we played South at Victor and I have a feeling West may have played at Renmark or Waikerie that year aswell

Loss of income would be the main reason.
Why not play the 3rd game of teams playing each other 3 times at a country venue then ?
Surely the South v Norwood game was a worthwhile effort for South ???? 500 South supporters at Noarlunga maybe 1500 locals at Encounter Bay plus afew more Norwood supporters would make the journey as a novelty. Would like to see the financials of that last game down there, I could not go but a lot of Norwood people enjoyed it.
Sturt in the Hills zone would make sense too as the die hards would still go but more locals would turn out surely ???
Port at Port Lincoln might be stretching it but the Magpies got a lot of good players from that area.

A Sturt match in the hills around Mount Barker is just the promo they need.

We already have a number of our games scheduled in the country this year centurion....Centrals at Elizabeth and South at Noarlunga. :P

Seriously though playing South at Encounter Bay was a fun road trip.

I thought the crowd at Encounter Bay was atleast double what South would of got at Noarlunga. I thought the SANFL clubs still got the gate, perhaps those involved at South could enlighten us further as to if it was profitable or not

I can remember Port last playing Sturt over here in the mid 90's, got about 4000. Would still get that crowd now I'm sure. You can get over here now for $200 return with a great hotel to stay at as well

That's because they didn't get to play at Aami Stadium.

I'd like to see South play at Easter every year at Encounter Bay as these seem to have ben a pretty good success, and then four country games each year amongst the other 8 sides, so each club hosts a game in their zone every two years.

Won't happen as South want Good Friday Footy, which last season was their biggest crowd of the year by miles

Spot on! Most home games are a rare opportunity to make a dollar ...... only 10 per year.
