Unley Oval Precinct Masterplan – conducted by the City of Unley

Following the appointment of consultants 180SLS by the Council in October 2012, the Sturt Football Club has been involved in several activities relating to the consultation process prior to the preparation of the first draft of the Masterplan.

The Sturt Football Club is a leading sporting club that utilizes the Unley Oval and its immediate surrounds as its primary venue, and as an active member of the Unley Oval Advisors Group, the Club has also been involved in direct liaison with Council as well as meetings with the Consultants - 180SLS.

The Club has been emphasising our immediate need for upgraded match day/training facilities for seniors and juniors; improved fencing arrangements and lighting for safe training purposes; and shared social clubroom facilities for combined users and the community.

An important part of the process includes community consultation, and the City of Unley is quite rightly encouraging the community to input into the process so that the views of the wider community and other sporting users of Unley oval are heard.

The Club encourages its Members to do the same and access to a short survey can be obtained from the City of Unley web site - http://yoursay.unley.sa.gov.au/unley-ov ... aster-plan - The Club values your input as members and we want to represent the common view from our membership base.

People around that area have no time for it. There is one particular councillor who speaks out regularly against Unley Oval. (He has his own blog on the internet)

The crowd noise might strip the duco of the paint on their 4 wheel drives.

Seroiusly though, it is very sad as I think the local community should get right behind it.

IMO Heritage styled fencing around areas of the ground would improve the look of the local area and reflect well on the heritage styled houses nearby. Fencing around the Playground area which is located much closer to the road than most playgrounds in the suburbs is more like common sense than anything else.

Just my perception but i think there's been a shift away from the NIMBY influence on Unley Council in recent years. A more honest acknowledgement of the benefits and place of organised sport in society too i think has made this masterplan possible. Not sure what will end up happening, and no doubt the issue of fencing will continue to be controversial, but the anti football brigade don't have the influence they used to have when they privately hoped football would disappear from the oval.

I think the Sturt Cricket Club will relocate there and the bowls club will become a social venue (community club).

Would have to be a community council/government project. PLenty of grants out there to obtain if they work hard enough.

The 2 mil doesnt include the council or governments contribution if you want something similar to whats been done at Prospect.
About as must chance of something similar happening at Unley as there would be of Drago being appointed the next Essendon fitness coordinator.

I've put a bit of $$ in their coffers with parking fines- the least they could do is use it towards this facility.

If I'm a member of Somerton Park Bowls Club, will I be able to purchase beer there?

If Sturt can't make any progress soon, next season they should bite the bullet and play most of their home games at the Parade, day and night, with a couple still at Unley!
After all their zone is almost there anyway

Umm aren't they games on there every week of every season already!

Obviously the 16's and 18's when we are away.
But im presuming Sturt would have to play their under age teams at Norwood aswell?
So 4 games per week at the Parade, plus will they train there aswell?
BTW I have no compaints about the surface its just the complaints I hear from everyone else.

make the juniors play at Unley, they don't generate any income anyway.
