Wedgies Grand Idea (Crows game @ Adelaide Oval)

Wedgie wrote:This might be a stupid suggestion but we all know a log of South Australian AFL fans don't go to finals because of the extra cost involved.
Perhaps we could have the AFL game on the big screen at Adelaide Oval as a lot of people might want to stay home and watch it on TV ?

This to me seems like a great idea worthy of some more attention, with many positives.
This will not only be a plus to the SANFL, in terms of making money but also ultimatley getting crows people to an SANFL game, which should be a great advertisment of our league, the incentive for the crows supporters is somewhere for their supporters to meet and watch the crows game for those who dont get tickets. during half time of the afl the 3rd Qtr of Glenelg and South will be on, i doubt the crows supporters will just leave for 20 minutes, they will see what our brand of footy has to offer.
Its no great loss in terms of the big screen anyway, more than 80% of SANFL games are played with out a big screen anyway, and we manage just fine.
Adelaide oval had a similar type of idea during the World Cup, in which 9000 people turned up with around 24 hours notice, so i dont see why the SACA would not go for this, also with the extra potential $'s there are to be made.
will be a massive boost in terms of the crowd, which will give the Glenelg and South players abit of practice infront of a bigger Adelaide oval crowd ahead of the 1st week of finals, not to mention a better atmosphere to play in.
If everyone gets behind this and it is advertised for a couple days in the Advertiser on the Radio and on TV, as the place for crows supporters to meet to watch the game, this could easily bring in an extra 3000+ to the game. (and there is somthing to do during the 300 add's on and @ Qtr time, Half time etc)
Also what better oppourtunity for the SANFL to advertise their finasl series, particualrly when a crows win would mean they have the week off when we have our 1st week of finals.

lol, when I first saw the title of your post I thought when the hell did I suggest the Crows should play at Adelaide Oval only to realise what you meant when I read your post.
A negative I can think of is that it would take some of the attention away from the live game?

Also, Im not sure if the Crows final will be on live or not?

You'd have to have the screen with no sound on though.

The idea has some merit and if the Crows game on the big screen was on pre-game, it would be a good idea. But no way would I want to see 1000 people on the hill with their backs to the play watching the big screen when an SANFL game is on.

A bit off topic, but how about a game at the Wayville Showgrounds when the Royal Show is on? Maybe the first Friday night of the Show, so the ground hasn't been destroyed by horses, motorcars and cannonball ladies.

At least the lights would be better than Elizabeth and the Parade

The Oval looked in tiptop shape last fri nite but by now it would be all chopped up by those things that turn good hay into shite

Voted no to this one as Footy Park will always be home to the Crows. Concept of AFL footy @Adelaide Oval is great but the AFL themselves are dead against it though stating the ground is not up to AFL standards. If anything would like to see Port play it's home games there. They only average about 25 - 30000 a home game @ Adelaide that would be a superb atmosphere.

How could it not be up to AFL standards?

I thought the venue with some work could have been ideal for AFL footy when it was first talked about all those years ago.

Not my words mate, the AFL's. I know it doesn't seem to make sense when you consider they already play at venues like Aurora Stadium, Manuka Oval etc and afterall our Adelaide oval is already a world class cricket ground.

Just to spice things up a bit, have them all on at the same time as the game.

I voted no- who wants an extra (say) 1000 people there, with their backs to the footy & watching the big screen?
A player is lining up for goal just as the Crows score, & the resultant cheering not in context with the game?
F**k the Crows & the AFL.
I'll be going to both games (North v Port & Glenelg v South)
