Constitutional Changes for SANFL Clubs - (SNOUTS NOTE ESP.)

Some may be aware that the SANFL is encouraging all clubs to adopt similar constitutions and has drafted up a 'template' for use by clubs. Clubs are free to make some changes in consultation with their members as part of a transition to the proposed new Constitution.

Glenelg FC has today advertised a Special General Meeting of members to vote on constitutional change there. (Full details are also on the club's website).

What are the Snout's thoughts about the proposed changes?
How much consultation has Glenelg had with its members about this process? (How long, what form etc?)
Have any other clubs embarked on this process as yet?
What are the thoughts of other supporters?
For Glenelg supporters, what do you think of the AGM being held in February the following year, as is proposed?
Will Glenelg members be able to be voted directly on to the Board under this new Constitution?
Will the new arrangements require the election of a new Board completely, or will the old Board be kept on for another year at least without any new elections?
Any other thoughts/comments?

North has already done theirs.
From a suspicious point of view, the change from Oct/Nov AGM's to Feb limit the amount of input that the members have to offer. In Oct/Nov, we can state we don't want to shift home games to Adel Oval say, but in Feb, it's done & dusted, no chance of stopping something before it's started. Now I realise it's also not that easy, but it makes it easier for the Club to push unfavourable (in the eyes of the members) agendas, with little or no consequences. Also, if members are critical of the ooach & want change, again, what can be done in Feb? It's too late.

When? How? What changes were made? Can members be voted straight on to the Board and if so, how many?

Some good points about the date changes. If a BOard was subject to a lot of changes one year, it would be July before any changes could show any results on and off field!

Well i certainly cant talk for any of the Other SNouts, but i can talk for myself as someone who has been on boards (bigger then the GFC) before and has a higher then average level of knowledge of the GFC boards.

1: I am 100% in favour
2: Not that I am aware of. I was made aware of the proposed changes in an informal chat with a board member a few months ago. I have discussed it today with people "in the know" and on the board at other SANFL clubs and they all support the idea
3. Yes
4.Probably "too hard"
5. This is the only thing that worries me, but the club has definitely struggled to be prepared for the last few agms including major typos in the published reports
6. I had not heard otherwise, so i PRESUME yes.
7. As far as I aware, the footballers club will be disolved. The chair of this board sits on both boards so presumably he would retain his post, the other 2(?) on the footballers club would be out of the frame
8. If any GFC members are confused/concerned, email the club. I have always found them open and honest and helpful when i have had queries about this sort of thing in the past. I have complete faith that this change is being done for all the right reasons.

When?
Last year
How?
At the AGM.
Members can always be voted straight onto the Baord as long as they register.
How Many?
However many spots come up for re-election.

It all seems good except part of delayed AGM which will make people stew about thing longer, prehaps forgetting about it. I personally thought late December was too far away from footy season and should of been held mid November.

I agree with you (and Punky), ours is now being held in Jan/Feb which is way too late and the club cited the difficulty to get the Annual Report together in time as the reason. We'll have to raise issues in Jan/Feb 2007 that might not be able to be actioned until 2008 which I don't like.
