Second half was goal for goal. Cracking game for the most part. Shit result though.

Salter did **** all until the ball found him twice in the second half and was the only time the hybrids looked like kicking a goal with any purpose.

Umpiring was appalling both ways, no one had a clue what they were going to call.

Powell, the ranga midget and Ainger good when it counted.

**** football.

He's great until a football is involved.

Can I substitute the feather for an anvil? ;) But yes, he is ordinary.

Worst part is, Eagles mate winding me up on the walk home. Prick.

The Eagles worked harder than we did, wanted it more and deserved the win. Newton played his best game for us, Kirkwood, Summerton and Young great.

Re: D Butcher, give him a job to shut someone down and he will do it well. Anything else he is useless. Tough as nails but decision making lets him down.

Powelly really lifted when it was on the line, Chris Hall had a great game and Sumner was sensational! This bloke will get picked up in the draft.

Probably no real idea who the winner was until one of the last kicks of the day.

Eagles had the best of possession early but didnt use it to full effect in the first quarter, while Port squandered opportunities in the first quarter.

Second quarter was much the same with the Pies pinching two late ones to lead at half time.

Most of the scoring was at the Northern end which seemed to defy the windsocks and trees on the outer in the first half. After half time the breeze was almost across the ground and other than making kicking look difficult it had no impact on the game.

The Eagles scored with more ease than Port, although no goal was easy today.

Brett Ebert hurt a groin in the second quarter and had no impact on the game while Johncock was a late withdrawal with back soreness. Robbie Young came in for him.

Paul Stewart showed his class with two goals, Ainger took a few strong grabs, Powell was good when it counted.

I think big Jimmy belted someone late and his number was taken down.

If one more Eagle complained about an umpire to me while they were winning I was about to lose it.

Pissed now and home for dinner.

Grrrrrr.

can any one explain to me why it's taken the SANFL over an hour after the game to get a score up?

Well that highlights that a tagger / shut down player needs to be multi tasked in the modern game. North's tagger / run with player Max Thring averages 22.5 disposals a game.

The Butcher situation also highlights if Port had all their Power players at the Magpies at present or under their preferred model which would include the likes of Gray, Beard and Summerton etc. would D. Butcher not be playing in the Magpie reserves? This goes against the supposed philosphy of developing the players in one team under the AFL coaching guidance which both the Power and Crows have made a main part of their argument for Reserves sides? If that was the case and D. Butcher ended up in the Magpie Reserves that would make an absolute mockery of why he was moved from North! You don't think Francou is a better coach than McGregor and could see he was not up to League standard or at least deserving of it or is it that Ken is told to play the likes of D. Butcher and Newton in the League team no matter what?

The live stats / scoreboard were working on the SANFL website - the other game live stats / scoreboard was not however?

Yeah it was close all day; I think the final margin was probably the biggest of they day. As an Eagles fan it's been a long time since I've seen a close game. Very good to get the points in one that could have gone either way - could be a turning point for both teams and certainly it's good to get some distance over Port and Centrals (both 5-6 I think, Eagles 7-4). 3rd place is obviously the goal.

Is that what happened. I noticed he barely had the ball. I think Salter might have copped a knock early because he was on the ground much in the first half. Still think he's better than Butcher who had by far the best game I've seen from him today...

Best game I've seen since the 2011 GF. Close all day, no team gave an inch, plenty of lead changes. Good crowd and conditions. Only downfall was the umpiring. Far too many free kicks given and was bad for both teams.

Yeah it was shite. Umpiring like that can nearly spoil a game. If these are the best umps in the state I'd hate to see what it's like in the amateurs.
