Who supports who at the footy?

Has any two clubs done a count of their supporters at the gate on entry, this would be the only way you could get a feel for which teams show support either home or away.

Or is this a to simplistic approach?

Whddyamean Huh

You know, ask people who they are supporting as they come in the gates or is that to simplistic for you.

All we ever get from Clubs is a rough guess, I am sure it would help the marketing people in each club rather than having a wild guess and never getting it right. South, West, Glenelg and Sturt management should have a better idea than a round about guess.

Trust me, the SANFL crowd figures given are not guesses. The attendants at the gates, who take your ticket or cash or puch your season ticket when you come into the ground, have little counter clickers at about the 10 minute mark of the 3rd term, they all collate their individual clicker total and have a final crowd figure that gets given to the media. I have seen this process, first hand, so have no doubting it. The only thing I'm not certain about, which I will ask next time I go to get a crowd figure for radio, will be whether thet 'click' kids?

I dont doubt the Official count as I see no reason why it should not be correct. Although the figures dont look right at times.

I think the clubs should have a better feel for how many of their supporters attend '
Home' or 'Away' matches, rather than try and estimate what % of the crowd is on their side.

Why? It would change on a week to week basis anyway. What benefit would having such a statistic provide?

Actually, at Unley in the early to mid 80's, a group of well meaning people turned up with banners, flags and stuff supporting the umpires. One banner said "field, boundary and goal umpires RULE!". when the umpires made an unpopular decision and were roundly booed, this small squad of hardy souls would cheer, actually they cheered all the decisions.
Finally they copped so much shit that by the final quarter they'd sort of just resorted to watching the footy.
Wasn't anyone from on here?

I think what Prowling Panther is trying to determine is, for instance, at the Central v Norwood game there was a crowd of 2,365 - what is the breakdown of Central Supporters, Norwood supporters and neutral observers.

Each club marketing department can then use this info for whatever they think they need to.

They do his for English Soccer....allow a certain allocation of away tickets, so say for a Derby v Blackburn game at Pride Park, hey allocate 5000 tickets for the away team. If they don't use the allocation they go back for sale to the home team, vice versa if they need more away tickets the home team can release some ending numbers. Always a accurate figure of away v home fans....

So if less away tickets are sold do they move the fence making the away fans' area smaller in order to allow more home fans in?

Not usually a fence in England.
They use police in the Aisles to secure off a section

5,000 tickets for B4st4rds away. Ha.....
They'd have to return 4,950 of them, unsold

If you're going to use soccer as an example at least pick a team that's creditable
