SANFL ANNOUNCES PREFERRED COMMERCIAL TV PARTNER – CHANNEL SEVEN

The SANFL has announced its preferred commercial TV partner for the 2014 season, with the Seven Network to broadcast SANFL league games live each week under a proposed three-year agreement.

The agreement would see one SANFL league match broadcast live each round on Seven from the 2014 season.

The League has negotiated the live broadcast production with McGuire Media, which would rotate around the SANFL’s suburban venues. The proposal includes:
- Five to six cameras at every broadcast game;
- Guaranteed media and cross-promotion across the Seven Network; and
- Coverage of SANFL Finals.

SANFL Executive Commissioner Leigh Whicker said the league was now seeking partners to fund the agreement.

“We are very enthusiastic about the possibility of partnering with Channel 7 and have had exploratory talks with corporate partners keen to become involved,” Mr Whicker said.

“The flexibility of the commercial broadcast platform gives us scope to showcase the competition to a wider audience.

“We are also discussing some very exciting ideas with Channel 7 and McGuire Media including blockbuster matches and the possibility of night finals.”

How faarking stupid does Olsen think we are?

Has he leased the SANFL to the AFL for 199 years?

A wider audience? Bet it won't be live into the NT. Bet it won't be available like on iview.

That is fantastic news for those wanting to watch the Crows Reserves each week on TV.

Commission's next dirty trick - to blackmail dissenting clubs with the news that the free to air deal only goes ahead if the Crows are in.
It was fine on the ABC for a tenth of the price!

Awesome, the SANFL has been lacking the AFL-style, manufactured, income-maximisation draw over fairness. Luckily INTEGRITY wasn't one of the objectives of the commission.

Just logged in from the Hotel from Poland, to find out this news...

Very interesting, indeed. I wonder who Seven will use for the Commentators? Hopefully the ABC TV guys will at least get a chance to apply?

It's not funded yet ... so why announce it?

To put more pressure on the club directors?

How much more stench can there possibly be from West Lakes?

Big Phil goes to Poland and the whole SANFL caves in.

Isn't that how World War I started?

I'd say by early next week there will be another press release from SANFL commission saying we are having trouble getting companies commit to becoming broadcast partners until they know if the Crows will be in or not

My mail is that ABC are still favourites but are yet to start negotiations with the SANFL despite the SANFL requesting a commitment for 2014.

If the AFL Reserves issue wasn't in the spotlight at the moment we'd all be saying that this was a fantastic thing. The SANFL Club i spoke to is excited about the possibilities and they've been told its not contingent on the AFL teams coming in.

It would be hilarious if this deal wasn't contingent on the afl reserves. It would defeat the main point they harp on about, re reduced exposure unless the afl players are involved.

Exactly.

But with 9 sponsoring the amateurs all of a sudden (WTF!), there's only one possible response...

If Channel 7 are awarded the rights will games be hidden on 7mate or 7two? Their main channel will be showing AFL games Saturday afternoons (usually on delay so they conveniently run into their precious news service  ) How much say would they have with the fixturing? And of course, if the “Ravens” come in will we see them on TV every second week? Like a few others have mentioned I smell a rat.

I’d love to see the coverage remain with ABC. Live, no ads, informed commentators without massive egos (most of the time), each club gets a fair share of coverage, highlights of other leagues/U18s.

The timing of this all stinks, why is there a need to announce it now when the make up of the competition is not known?
