THE SANFL/ AFL PLAYERS ROULETTE WHEEL.....a joke....

Postby mal » Sun Sep 10, 2006 7:25 pm

The SANFL has been degraded again for the umpteenth time.

The russian/afl/sanfl wheel rolled for round 23 for a DUMB weekend.

If a SANFL team has players aligned to the Crows those players deemed available
If a SANFL team has players aligned to the Power those players deemed UNavailable

The wheel spins and WILLETTS and LOGAN cant play for Glenelg[+ Salopek ?]
The wheel spins and DOUGLAS and CLARKE can play for Glenelg if dropped.
The wheel spins today and MCGREGOR plays for the Eagles today.
The wheel spun earlier this year and Scotty WELSH won a game for Eagles reserves.

All the above crapp detemined by how Crows and Power finish in the AFL.
WILLETTS played 17 games for the Bays and cant play.
MCGREGOR plays o games for the Eagles is allowed to play.

YET another dumb ruling has it that WILLETTS and LOGAN could play this week
if Glenelg got past South Melbourne.

I realise the ruling is made to stop Power players all dropping back to the SANFL .
That example would be LADE could play for South,CORNES boys back to Bays etc etc.
The rule should be :
ANY PLAYER WHO HAS PLAYED 3 GAMES FOR HIS SANFL CLUB BEFORE ROUND 23
SHOULD BE DEEMED AVAILABLE , very very logical I think.
That would exclude the ring ins.

All Glenelg supporters should be aggrieved, 22 round s of hard work railroaded in round 23.

Also spare a thought for Logan and Willits who were desperate to play finals footy for Glenelg. They both chose to attend Glenelg training last week (Wed and Fri) and Willits even sat on the Glenelg bench at the game yesterday.

Ecky, if they were that desperate to play for Glenelg, they could have done what a certain Central player did in 2000 and refuse to play for the Power in their final game. *grins*

Well, since you mentioned it...

Allegedly, Logan did not want to play Port's last game in Perth after injuring his ankle in the Showdown, but Port forced him to take painkillers and play.

Thats the way the league operates these days. They're the rules, and its the major reason why i'm not as enthused about the SANFL in the same manner i was pre 1991. Its all a jackpot as to who will be available, and who wont be. I personally dont think Logan and Willetts should have been available this round, because then that would confuse the rules even more, its impossible to allow for every possible contingency.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the season, nor the 2 players involved, but Norwood had two AFL listed players in their team. They had played for Norwood leading up to the finals. The moment the AFL club dropped out of the finals race, the two players were ordered to have minor operations, and they missed the finals for Norwood.

Graham Cornes used to complain about the cooperation (or lack of) from SANFL clubs, especially Norwood (ironically coached at that time by Neil Craig), but the AFL clubs weren't doing the SANFL clubs a lot of favours either. I realise they are AFL players, and they are paid by their AFL clubs.

I thought it was rather humorous recently that Neil Craig expressed disappointment at the SANFL clubs for their lack of cooperation with Crows players when he did little to assist the Crows when he was coaching an SANFL club :)

Hold on forcing someone to take pain killers to play is not on. what happens if the injury is made worse? perhaps the have another Aaron Keating on our hands here. Port defence will be he was copping out so he could play SANFL finals.

Simple Solution here is to introduce SAAFL type rules here which would be 70% of games played in the grade in which the palyer wishes to play finals in therefore Willits is able to play if selected. I assume something similar is in place for fringe league players also?

Ecky, that is pretty tough of Port. Logan had more to gain for his own development if he would have been allowed to play for Glenelg and help them into the finals. Surely, the experience of playing in the SANFL finals would have benefitted him the world of good. Not sure if he will get to play finals for the Power for a fair while!

The roulette wheel, if Glenelg beat South............
Logan, operation for a dislocated fingernail.
Willetts operation for facial removal from his left eardrum.

How often they are fit when playing AFL and then mysteriously
need end of season operations when thier AFL teams are eliminated
in the minor round or finals.

Degrading our once prestigious SANFL.

My advice to Glenelg, employ a commitee to make money streams
for the club and then go to Victoria and sign up players, breeding
and developing talented young footballers and relying on fringe AFL
listed players is a recipe for no success.

Any truth to the Rumour Mal that South are ditching tne "SA" next year and replacing it with a "V"
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

TASSIE, the blueandwhiteprint of recruiting has superceded the
Glenelg philosophy of breeding, nuturing and developing young
excting mostly local talent.
The job Mickan has done with Douglas, Willetts, Sundquist, Gibbs,
Sellars and others is magnificent, but a WOFTAM.....

Equally well done is the job Pyman has done with Cupido, Archard
and Clarke this year when recruiting yese blokes.

I ask what is the better method....[ask Centrals]

Same thing happened with Mcleod and Port in 1995.

It is silly. If the AFL club is still active then ALL players from that squad can play SANFL finals no matter how many games theyve played. So Mark Riccuito could play for West, Burton for Eagles etc. despite playing zero games during the year. This happened with Modra in 1998 if i remember rightly, didnt play a match for West that year but when dropped from the Crows he could play for Westies in the finals because the Crows were still active.

The SANFL should base their season to finish the same weekend the AFL season finishes. This way that wouldnt happen. For what its worth I dont think Logan and Willits would make 10 goals difference to Glenelg.

The AFL should really get off their arse and organise a proper reserves system. Wouldnt be too hard in reality.
