Only problem is that the AFL will have no problem with this as, it is keeping the SANFL as a feeder comp. :x

How many star SANFL players have left to go to the country. Most are reserve players that are not going to make it or older players who's bodies are giving up on them.

If you think these players are leaving the SANFL because their bodies are shagged ,you are kidding yourself. I am just saying we are losing players like Mickeljon and Ebert to cashed up Country clubs when they could still be playing in the SANFL.
I don`t blame the players for this, as they do have to make a living.
I know we lost Ladhams a few years back now to the Country and he certainly had more to offer at that time.

I can guarentee players like Mielklejohn and Ebert would earn more playing SANFL than country footy. Its the commitment required that they dont want to do anymore.
For the level that the SANFL is the training demands are way too much, put a cap on that!

Spot on, its not the money.
Bit rich asking guys to train 5-6 days a week to play in a development league. Much easier to train 1-2 nights a week at a country club

There is no way that country clubs can ever be capped as most players are probably paid under the table by wealthy sponsors. If a country club can afford it good luck to them and I dont blame players for leaving the SANFL

Only way it could be done is if players & clubs have to sign stat decs on what they are paid but that could be more of a nightmare than anything.

Only way is to get the tax department involved. Don't think players would take to kindly to an audit and have their football income taxed as a 2nd job much like current SANFL players are taxed....

Can never be done, there are so many ways around it.
In country footy there is always plenty of well off supporters who are more than willing to slip some cash in the players back pockets. Plenty of players would be getting paid off the clubs books

This is wrong. There is plenty the ATO can do about it if they do an investigation. The question is merely whether the ATO has the resources to look into it when they have a lot of other things they need to be doing.

The Dogs are never going to be able to have a year when they get the likes of Nason and Sansbury back, though ;)

We've had many underwhelming recruits go on to become multiple premierships. Reputation won't earn you a kick, although it can earn a few extra MM votes.

Do you mean Ben Nason -- the seconds player? All clubs get AFL rejects coming home. What are you talking about? What have you been smoking?

Glenelg are building from a VERY low base. They will do well to even be competitive and get off the bottom.

Central will do well not to slip to the bottom, they're in disarray ....

Id like to take money on that.
Wont finish bottom and have enough quality to still trouble sides but they wont be a contender and will probably miss finals

Will miss the finals and be in that 6-10 irrelevant group and no concern to any contender ...

I reckon Phil's post may not have been so much about the players as the poster he was responding to there jim. ;)

The irrelevant group has only two members, and Central is neither of them.

I couldn't care less if Centrals finished down near Glenelg next year......just as long Centrals gets rid of all the party boys (who'd rather be king of Red Square than be king of the centre or goal square), all players who are just trading on past glories and all the ones at the club who don't attend the "compulsory" weights training sessions...they are the ones who have infested the club for far too long!

As long as we replace those dead weights with players who are committed to the jumper and put in a honest decent effort every week then I'll be happy.
