I believe on the VFL Premiership Cup it has "Geelong Reserves" on there so why would we be differant?

Obviously the Crows games are all new.

However should there be a distinction between the Magpies record pre AFL reserves and what they do from 2014 onwards
or because it is the same jumper & name it just keeps rolling on without change.

Neither of these entities is a valid SANFL team. As such records ought not be kept for them, and records of the dinkum 8 clubs should reflect only matches played against other dinkum clubs.

Factual as usual Mark, keep up the good work. Just a shame some choose to ignore facts as it doesn't suit them.

I've had this argument with Cornesy, who relies on technicalities and Legalities to support his side. Relying on legalities in this case renders his argument invalid. Legal arguments are bound by precedent and in this case of a club moving to another competition, there is none.

And since the Magpies remained in the SANFL, while a new entity was formed to play in the other league, there is still no precedent.

I would believe legalities and technicalities long before I would believe the delusional bleatings of those whose arguments all boil down to "because we say so, because we want it to be so".

Port Adelaide Football Club 1870-1995
Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club 1996-2013
Port Adelaide Football Club (SANFL) 2014-
Port Adelaide Football Club (AFL) 1996-

Beefy I like this too and put this to SANFL but not to be...

The PAFC annual reports have a progression 1980-2010 - synchronous all the way - I have most of these from 1940-2010
THEN in 2011, they are under the umbrella of the Power as a new club using the same name as its predecessor. Part of Ginevers successful push to be the united football club.

As for those who want to take shots at me, I dont mind. Perhaps they can grab a number and stand in line :D
Also, thanks for the support of many posters - All I am trying to do is keep our history as accurate as possible - especially since I am on a panel with the AFL looking at bringing all state stats into line and making their oragnisation consistent. I tried this years ago when I wanted to remove SANFL cup games and put them into another category but was shot down. As a result, the VFL/AFL said that because we were the only state to include these 20 minute games as league games, it would make our father son rule different to other states to compensate. The SANFL then tried to find out the real figures but they left it too late. SO, its for reasons like these and future rules (like father-son) that we need independent ways to group stats. You can always lump things back together but it takes enormous time to pull them apart with accuracy so you can prove who played and kicked goal when.

The sole reason for my post was to inform other people who do wonderful jobs collecting SA footy stats purely for their own consideration. SA seems to have more History lovers of our code than any other state that I confer with. Lets hope we can stay that way, stay relevant and stay passionate

Panther Pack your stats are flawed been thru this all before in Centrals case ie Centrals first league game was in 1964 so therefore in regards to premierships since 1964 for Centrals are

Magpies 12
Central 9
Norwood 7

etc etc

also for Woodville/West Torrens stats are diff again ie pre 1990 then post 1990

then we can go a step further pre Crows pre Power etc etc etc

So mant diff computations my friend

You can have
SANFL 2000 - 2011 Central District 12 consecutive Grand Final appearances and 9 Premierships.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFF.

Hit em hard let them get up and hit em again.
