Reserves Magarey Medal Tonight - Who will win?

Tonight the Reserves Magarey Medal will be counted.

Does anyone have any opinions on who might win?

From my biased Glenelg perspective, I would think that Marcus Burdett would be a very good chance. Out of his 14 games, he has been in the top 3 Glenelg players 11 times, and has averaged a staggering 36 possessions!

Here are his full stats:

Code: Select all
Rd Best Kck   Mk   HB   Gls   Opponent
 1   1   34   11    6   0   Norwood
 2   1   36   10   11   1   Eagles
 7   2   26   11   12   1   West Adelaide
 8   4   20    3   14   0   Port Adelaide
 9   6   23    9    5   0   Sturt
10   3   19    6    8   3   Norwood
12   1   30   11    2   1   Central Districts
15   3   26    8    7   3   South Adelaide
16   2   29    5   11   2   West Adelaide
17   3   26   11   15   0   Port Adelaide
18   0   26    8   11   0   Norwood
19   3   22    9   14   0   Sturt
20   1   21    5   11   1   North Adelaide
23   1   20   10   24   1   South Adelaide

Note that "Best" is his position in the Glenelg best players list.

Infact, with Block and Horan also having very consistent years in the Reserves, I wouldn't be surprised if there was actually a Glenelg Trifecta.

If you look at the number of times players have appeared in their clubs best player list (available on http://www.sanfl.com.au) the only 4 who have done so more than 10 times are Burdett, Horan, Block plus Tyson Wait from Port.

From the Legs I'd suggest probably Ryan Lewis, Mark Vettesse or Paul James (depending on how the ump's respond to his penchant for back chat) .. Will probably be an even spread though .. Be interesting to hear from Westies fans on how Marc Cox has performed since being with them, as I think he might poll a few early in the year when he was still a Redleg.

from the Blue baggers - Childs / miles and Smith to get some votes.

I rekon Eckys bays bloke has a fair chance of winning it though with those sort of numbers.

Look for Lindsey Thomas to be leading at the halfway point of the year. His promotion to the seniors for most of the second half of the year means we wont win it. I wouldnt expect Tyson Wait to win it.

Yeomans might have got up if he hadn't been selected for as many Senior games this year. Well done to him, I know his family very well and after a shaky first senior game (helps if the coach gives some feedback!) this year and then getting dropped he fought back very well.

Sam McDonald from Westies won the 19's medal.

Last year it was a tie between two West players.

Very pleased to see two Norwood boys in the medals.
