If we were ever in doubt, the VFL now totally have SA Footy subjugated. Yes these are unique times, but SA sends its dollars interstate in the good times and the bad times. We send our hard earned interstate to prop up expansion clubs ($50 million dollars a year mind you) and of course the struggling Victorian clubs.

I was told this week by someone who usually knows that it’s highly unlikely either of the AFL clubs will play SANFL this year if the season goes ahead.

As much as I hate their presence, they can't just simply decide to pull out and leave the competition, would confirm that they do just treat the SANFL like its plaything.

Plaything  It won't be a choice to not field a side in the SANFL if it comes to it, it will be a necessity to ensure the clubs survival at the top level. The same as if a SANFL club has to pull its team from the reserves comp or the Women's comp.

Yep, I wouldn’t think either AFL club would choose to leave in ordinary times, but at the moment that’s obviously not the case

So it was critical to their AFL program in 2013 but 2020 its a dispensable item?

Well they are after an AFL handout so that would be yes. You dont think the AFL will allow them to have a SANFL team once they take over their finances?

Yes I think so. Too many teams, too many coaches etc etc etc. The Franchises and a few Vic clubs just a drain on the system. Its what happens when you are greedy. My sympathy is huge.

First reports I heard when the AFL secured a line of credit was that West Coast, Collingwood, Richmond, Hawthorn and possibly Adelaide would self fund and not fall under the AFL's administration, so to speak. Haven't seen or heard anything since?

Essendon are going it alone.
Email sent out to members last week stating we are well placed and will not be seeking AFL funding

Provided crowds are allowed back, the SANFL should use this opportunity to potentially start the season late and run it over summer.

Grounds may need to be shared, but there would be enough availability to get a season going.

8 teams. 14 Rounds. Top 4 and 3 weeks of finals.

A season done in under 4 months.

Who knows, it might be the way forward for the SANFL? Dog_ger predicted it years ago.
