Edited above for accuracy... SANFL was formed in 1907, you can't count the earlier one's. They never used to be counted until some sad case at the Advertiser decided to give Norwood a boost to help them catch up to Port Adelaide.

For the record, I think Port Adelaide (Magpies) would be on 31.

Dr, Bernard Whimpress proved conclusively that it was wrong to use 1907 as the start date for premierships. All that happened in 1907 was a change of name for the league, SAFA became SAFL. It then changed its name again from SAFL to SANFL in 1927, so following the 1907 argument you may as well say premierships prior to 1927 don't count.

The only premierships subject to some doubt are those prior to 1897 when electorate football was provisionally introduced and then introduced universally in 1899. The general consensus now is that those prior to 1897 are counted as well.

Plus if that's the case, why are we leaving some flags out... i.e. where's the Victorian premiership?

Add them to the list then...

... or better yet, aren't they the original North Adelaide, so why don't we say North Adelaide have won 14?

... and where is Adelaide's flag from 1886?

Unfortunately the original North Adelaide bears no relation to the current North Adelaide which evolved from the Medindie team. I tried to make the tenuous link to give us 14 flags, but to no avail. It is similar to claiming the current Adelaide side is the same as the 1886 Adelaide side.

Perhaps it could start when the crows and power came in.

Maybe the premiership count should always be based on the last 50 years... so a moving window...

So for 1965-2014 it would be :-

Port Adelaide 14
Central District 9
Sturt 8
Norwood 8
North Adelaide 4
West Torrens 3
Glenelg 3
West Adelaide 1
South Adelaide 0

Or maybe it should just be since the league started, in 1877. :-)

In the end I suppose it doesn't matter... it's AFLSA at the moment and premierships don't mean much to me anymore...

Even if my team won it, I'd be happy for the players, but its nothing like winning one in the 80s or 90s.
