Williamstown have appealed the decision, but the VFL have knocked it back so McKevoy is free the play for Box Hill despite not having qualified. Disgrace.

Precedent has been set. Expect it to happen here and WA.

Great interview on SEN just now with the President of Williamstown. I'll see if they put up the audio.
Basically said that the decision was done behind closed doors between Hawthorn, Box Hill, VFL and AFL Victoria with no consultation with Williamstown.
He also said that during the season all VFL club Presidents, bar Bendigo, met and agreed that all rules surrounding AFL players' eligibility for VFL finals would be strictly adhered to.

No footy other than the AFL means anything after all.

Wish Williamstown had gone to court with it, is there a fighting fund we can donate to?

It was also mentioned that the head of AFL Victoria can basically over rule any player eligibility rules in the VFL.
Seriously.

On another note, driving down Port Road this morning on my way to work, I saw a car with a 2014 Port Power membership and a 2014 Port Magpies membership sticker. I thought, why would you bother to become a Port Magpies member? How long until they get rid of a choice? I give it two years at most.

If anybody knows about the VFL rules, does AFL Victoria have an absolute discretion to waive the qualification rules? If so, is it only while the AFL team are still in the running?

Would also be interested to know what the official line of reasoning from whoever made the decision is. Really can't imagine how it can be justified.
