Bingo, that right there.
12 years ago when my eldest went on to play seniors there were a fair few older & past players who had only daughters, they used to have a beer with us & tell me how lucky I was to be able to see my two play footy & they were stuck with a lifetime of netball & soccer clubs. Once the ammys picked up on the girls teams Fitzroy started up a couple of junior girls teams, these were players daughters who literally dragged out their netball & soccer mates to play. After a couple of years they made & won a u15s flag, these blokes who always came out & encouraged my son were in tears, they were so proud & delighted that they could experience a footy premiership with their girls, even if it was a junior c grade or whatever.
They need a goal to go for & the AFLW is just that.

Bingo. That was me last year.

So I think we can all agree its only people that have family members involved that have any interest in womens football.

No.

Daysofourlives .................chuck in an entry fee , little media exposure considering the spectacle and watch it fade. Compare the pair . Its an AFL driven scheme to involve females. They were already involved ! Some of you have blinkers on.

I’m pretty sure people’s attitude isn’t the reason.
With so much sport and entertainment around these days there’s only so much people will spend on some products.

I can’t see this product being one of them.

The AFL aren’t stupid hence why they have made it free entry.

The AFL made a $48.5m profit last year, down $2m on the year before due to investment in AFLW. Next year the investment in womens football across the country will go from $16.5m to $22.5m.

In the last 12 months females playing or participating in Australian Rules Football has increased by 11% to 600,000.

You should all put your knickers back on and get comfortable, womens footy is here to stay.

Alot of things are offensive to old mate Brett, perhaps it's just the way the ball bounces, maybe it's the it's the fact he never liked the name Michael.

Who knows.

I find it it very unfair the money being spent on comparison. I never heard anyone here a few years back screaming for it ?

In fairness the money being spent on womens football over the last 5 years pales into comparison the hundreds of millions of dollar that has been spent on Male/Country/Amatuer/Junior football over the last 100 years.

Many would find it unfair and unusual that it has taken so long to get Womens footy to this level.

All this talk about growing the game over the years and we haven't tapped into 50% of the population.

Not really a fair comparison though as the women have benefitted too by joining a code that was already well pre-established through said investment.

I have no issue at all with the girls playing footy btw, was just responding to that one comment. Think it's fantastic the sport is open to them and am certain there will be a dramatic shift in natural ability over the next 10-15 years. As others have said, as with any sport/movie/TV show etc, noone has to watch it if they don't like it.
