Peripheral I realise but, FWIW, I've always got a laugh out the media pushing this "cross-town rivalry" stuff, considering there's only about two and a half clicks between them in the north-western suburbs. :D

Anyway, play on.

Disgusting decision by the SANFL to reduce the salary cap to that amount, conveniently close to the same as the new hybrid VFL competition. Why wouldn't the VFL just included the crows and power reserves as well, what a joke. We don't need to take them back, the contract surely is void if the crows aren't paying the $400k and the power reserves provide nothing financially anyhow, so stuff them too. If the contract means we have to let them back in, then what happened this season? You can't just pick and choose when a contract matters or not. Covid was a legitimate excuse and if it's ok for them to break the contract and not play this season, guided by the AFL then it should also be perfectly fine for us to not let them back in until the salary cap goes back to what it was pre Covid. We keep having to bend over backwards to change things for them and the AFL, no way should we be letting them get any ex SANFL listed player that was contracted over the last 12 months and the leadership player should've never happened anyway. When will the people running our league show some balls and actually make decisions that will benefit it instead of pandering to the AFL and the reserves muppets. The league could be totally screwed if they stuff this up, it might be years before the increase the salary cap again and by that time the interest in the competition will be well and truly lost.

The SANFL management system is to bend over and grab their ankles, grin and bear it. They do whatever the AFL tells them to do.

Yeah, I dont think I have ever seen such a weak knee organisation. Total weak as water and would not be able to make a decision to actually help our competion apart from feathering their own comfortable rich nests in their silver spoon environment. They should be ashamed of what they are doing to this states football league and to be frank they should all be sacked

I can't find the link online but did anyone see the Sunday Mail today with David Koch complaining that the Magpies don't have a level playing field in the SANFL?

He wants the rules on recruitment and top up players changed because he thinks the other 8 clubs have an advantage.

"Absolutely our first preference is playing in the SANFL but we also want to be treated with respect as an SANFL foundation club ... in terms of a level playing field. There's been some issues in terms of restrictions with both AFL clubs."

Port whinging again? Even playing field for sure , no Alberton games and pay an annual fee like the Crows so its even. Don't like it , go elsewhere. Simple.

Good post Brett. They have the most uneven playing field.

Here you go.

PORT Adelaide plans to return to the SANFL next season, but chairman David Koch says the club wants respect and a “level playing field” in the state league.

The Magpies did not take part for the first time in the SA competition’s 143-year history in 2020, due to an AFL ruling that top-tier players could not feature at lower levels to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Adelaide also sat out this campaign, reducing the league to eight teams.

Koch said lining up in the SANFL was important for the club, which, like the Crows, was contracted to have its reserves in the competition until 2028. But he said Port Adelaide had issues with some of the restrictions the SANFL imposed on the two AFL sides, who had their own rules regarding recruiting and top-up players.

Koch’s comments came after The Advertiser this week reported the Crows and Power were set to meet with the SANFL next month to discuss their issues, and in the wake of a 22-team VFL and east coast competition being created. The SA clubs’ involvement in the SANFL is also clouded by a lack of clarity on AFL list sizes.

“Absolutely our first preference is playing in the SANFL, but we also want to be treated with respect as an SANFL foundation club … in terms of a level playing field,” Koch said.

“There’s been some issues in terms of restrictions with both AFL clubs, the Crows and ourselves.

“It’s a great competition and we love being part of it.”

The Magpies are the league’s most successful side with 36 flags, but have not had the ultimate success since 1999. Adelaide is yet to make a grand final.

SANFL football general manager Matthew Duldig this week said Port Adelaide and the Crows would discuss their conditions of entry next month, as they did every year.

Adelaide planned to lobby the league to reduce its $440,000 annual licence fee, given clubs in the new eastern states competition would not be paying one.

Port Adelaide does not pay a yearly sum as part of its entry conditions.

Who cares if this new Eastern league "clubs" dont pay a Licence fee ?

Koch and his two sided arguments is so transparent. Whinges on one sentence then the next will always say how great the SANFL comp is.

Want to come back then pay for it . If you want to whinge go elsewhere.

Ahahahahahaha.

A level playing field would presumably mean $13m salary caps for each of the 8 dinkum clubs.

The rules should be even more weighted towards the genuine clubs.
AFL reserves sides should never be allowed to win a Premiership in the SANFL.

Shows what a tosser Koch is .If Adelaide dont pay $400.000 a year wont they be breaking their contract to the SANFL .
We dont need either of them but be assured the SANFL muppets wont stand up to the 2 AFL sides and will get them back in

If he wants a level playing field then fine, pay all of your players a maximum total of 200k, make them all take up day jobs, get rid of 90% of your staff and pay back all the money you owe the SANFL. Happy to have them back on a level playing field if that's what he wants.
What a deluded fool, no wonder his club hasn't won anything since he's been there.

Heard a bit of a rumour on the weekend, that marquee players for crows and magpies will remain but the eight SANFL clubs will also be allowed to have a marquee player, paid outside the salary cap to soften the slashing blow to the salary cap. Has anyone heard similar.

A marquee player in each club may cause more problems than he is worth. What more important is the 2 AFL teams paying an due affiliation fees. They dont bring anything else to the comp, they only take.PA dont pay anything atm.

Yes Ferrett - each SANFL club has been offered a marquee player - the eight true SANFL clubs already have them (mostly). This is just a way that the SANFL can pander to the two AFL clubs whilst trying to make it an even playing field which it most certainly is not. You can tell that Boofhead's bleating in the Sunday Mail yesterday is where they want things to be. The AFL clubs want their cake and eat it to and will keep pushing the SANFL to get their own way.

If Foote decided to leave it may be a way of keeping him or getting Tsitas to stay. I would like to see $50,000 outside the Salary cap split/used to keep may be 2 or 3 good players.
